## Description

Dark truths uncovered . . . The buried contents of a Nazi train. An aging SS killer—with a final sting in his tail. And the World War II secrets of a US presidential hopeful’s Jewish family, hidden in London for 70 years. ★★★★★ “A great read, has more twists than a country road.” — desertcart reviewer. In this gripping thriller, war crimes investigator and ex-CIA officer Joe Johnson uncovers links between financing for the presidential campaign, the Nazi train, and a ruthless British blackmail plot. But the mystery becomes bigger and more deeply personal than Johnson expects when it turns out the SS Holocaust killer escaped his net years earlier. Soon there are high-level intelligence agency and criminal networks combining across three continents against Johnson and his ex-MI6 colleague Jayne Robinson. He finds himself inextricably caught up in a deeply challenging quest to win justice, to avenge his mother’s tortured past and revive his flagging career. The Last Nazi is the first book in the Joe Johnson series. Read how he puts himself in the firing line to uncover dark truths. desertcart REVIEWERS ON THE JOE JOHNSON SERIES: ★★★★★ “Right up there with Daniel Silva/Gabriel Allon.” ★★★★★ “Every bit a match for Lee Child and Tom Clancy.” ★★★★★ “More than a touch of Forsyth.” ★★★★★ “Far better than Ludlum.” ★★★★★ “If you enjoy the work of Vince Flynn and Nelson DeMille, you’ll be happy to discover Andrew Turpin.” **This thriller comes with a link inside the book allowing readers a COMPLIMENTARY download of a prequel to the Joe Johnson series — The Afghan. **

Review: Accurate and Engrossing - A surprisingly good story that ranges from WWII to the present day. Both early and later portions of the story take place in an area of Poland I am very familiar with, and the book does a good job providing a historically accurate description of the area and the part it played in the war. The plot driver is a treasure of Nazi gold hidden in tunnels during the last days of the war. Two brothers who escaped the concentration camp during the war use the gold to torment a evil Nazi in hiding in Argentina. The characters are very interesting, and interact in a variety of ways as Joe Johnson, a former CIA agent turned Nazi-hunter, tracks the aged war criminal despite efforts by two governments to protect the criminal. The Nazi's son. old friends, former lovers and enemies work with and against Joe Johnson as he tries to understand the issues and do the right thing. The writing is quite good and keeps the level of suspense high as threat after threat impacts Johnson and his team
Review: Very Suspenseful, BUT . . . - I read books aloud to hubby, as we enjoy sharing events "as they happen". We also share the same interests, especially anything to do with WWII; thus, this book piqued our interest from the title alone. We liked the book very much, but it was hard to get into and did not flow well. The author jumps around an awful lot; we had a hard time keeping the characters straight, constantly having to refresh our memory from chapter to chapter as to who was associated with what organization and what their involvement was in the story. Thus, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. On the other hand, there were many parts of the book that were suspenseful and exciting, and we are talking about trying the next Joe Johnson thriller in the series, "The Old Bridge". It's not about WWII, unfortunately, but neither are the Cormoran Strike detective mysteries that we love so much by J.K. Rowling, and would be a good book to read while we anxiously await J.K. Rowling's 4th novel in the detective series, supposedly being printed as we speak. One last comment: I can imagine this author -- Turpin -- writing a novel about the German U-boats in the Atlantic during WWII -- oooh boy, now THAT's something we could really get into!

### ⭐⭐⭐ interesting read from the way the third Reich dealt with financing their war.

Good read and the story moved well. The goal and the obstacles were treated well. A little long on the chase but I guess could not be avoided.
