How difficult would it be to treat a 40l tank, given the small dosages for larger tanks?

For 50% water changes, ie 20 litres, it needs 0.25 ml added to the new water before putting it in the tank. If using a bucket, the amount needed to treat the volume of water in the bucket should be added to each bucket of water. To measure these small amounts, a 1 ml babies' medicine syringe (sold on Amazon) is ideal as they are marked in hundredths of a ml.
