Loved it!
This is the fourth book I have read by Catherine Cookson and I just want to keep reading more. I start to read other books but find I always want to go back and read one more of Cookson's.Her books are so delightful and you soon feel you are right there with the characters. I can't put the books down once started. She is a master story teller. I love how she seems to portray people who are having struggles of some kind and how they work through them with integrity and goodness.

"MY BELOVED SON" - A GOOD READ
A LITTLE HARD TO GET STARTED, BUT THEN I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. THOROUGHLY ENJOYED READING MY FIRST BOOK BY CATHERINE COOKSON. I JUST STARTED HER SECOND BOOK "THE GIRL".

well written
Very good story. Holds your interest. Not a romance novel but very satisfying to read. You care about the characters.

An unputdownable book.
Well I'm not yet a quarter of the way through this but I can tell already that it's going to be another super book! I usually read in bed at night, but with these latest ones - I was able to buy a group of 4 on here - I find myself sitting reading once my housework's done as I can't wait to get at them. I'm really glad that these were found in her attic, - I think I read that somewhere - because she was a great miss as an author.

Dark but still a page turner
Years ago I read and re-read every Catherine Cookson book and she was one of my favourite authors. I had not read this one however and don't remember it. It is a very dark book and a bit depressing but a good story all the same and I would recommend it.
