For those fans of Cherise Sinclair's HIGHLY ADDICTIVE Masters Of The Shadowlands who love and adore Master Z and Jessica, you will NOT want to miss Defiance! This novella is A MUST READ! ~ Marie’s Tempting Reads Z’s day begins with sadness A phone call from a dying friend leaves psychologist Zachary Grayson determined to fulfill the old survivalist’s request--a send-off that will comfort his grieving sons. And then turns deadly The death threat is only the beginning…because the letter isn’t a hoax. Z walks out of his office into a barrage of bullets. He can take being shot at, but when the second shot splinters the empty child seat in his car, he’s shaken to the core. The horror of what would have happened if his little girl had been there spurs him to action. Master Z is a Dom, a husband, a father—every instinct drives him to protect those under his care. When the police can’t catch his stalker, he must take matters into his own hands. He must keep danger far from those he loves. Secrecy and distance are the keys. The funeral in Alaska is the perfect location, especially since Z won’t be alone. The survivalist’s sons have grown into men with lethal skills. With their help, he can trap the shooter and keep his family safe. As long as his impetuous and all-too-observant wife, Jessica, doesn’t discover he’s using himself as bait. Defiance is not only a wonderful addition to the beloved Masters of the Shadowlands series, but you also get to meet the sons from the suspenseful Sons of the Survivalist series. Review: Great introduction to a new series - I really enjoyed this story, the characters and background were very well developed and the banter between them all made me feel like I was part of the conversation like I was there with the characters in their reception. Cherise Sinclair writes great stories and this is definitely one of them as well. It was nice having a story about Master Z and Jessica because you get to see how their life together is progressing and you get caught up with what has been happening at the beginning of the story and Cherise did something unexpected a surprise by bringing a character from her Dark Haven series into this story. You’ll have to read the book to know who it is. I was surprised at how fast a read this story was it was short too. I didn’t want it to end, but now I’ll have to buy the first book in the Son of Survivalist series to find out what happens with Gabe. I would recommend this book to fans of Cherise Sinclair and for those who love the Shadowlands Master Z oh and to people who love romance. Review: Great Characters, Thrilling Stories - I read this book when it was new, and I just read it again. Of course having Master Z in it was a big plus! This lead me to read the four ‘Sons of the Survivalist’ again. This is a wonderful series! The characters are amazing, the location is great, and the mystery part was nail biting. I will probably read them all again several years from now when I’ve had a chance to forget every detail.

Patiently awaiting the next book and the next ...
I have been purchasing this series since 2013. Normally I do not buy books that are not stand alones but these books are an exception. You do not have to worry that you need to read each one to follow along. The author does bring main characters forward with an explanation as to who they are, you are not left wondering. I think, if you like one book, you will be hooked and read the rest. Toward the end I did wonder about the "redhead" and whether or not she was involved with the sniper. As always, I was not disappointed in the outcome. This one is tame compared to the author's previous books. An FYI - This novella brings in several intriguing individuals that begin the Sons of the Survivalists series.

"Too Short For It's Own Good!"
Excited as always to see a new story by Cherise Sinclair, I couldn't wait to lay my eyes on , Defiance. Catching up with Master Z and his lovely family is always a pleasure, but seeing Master Z with a threat on his head; is honestly intriguing. I would be lying if I said my interest wasn't at it's peak. Zachary, didn't just have himself to worry about. He also had his wife, Jessica, and their small daughter to consider. Well, in a master, submissive/relationship there are strict rules and one of them is honesty, which Master Z broke by not sharing the threat at hand. A woman knows her man, and when something is wrong antennas go up, so no matter how much Master Z tried to hide the serious problem at hand; the more he alerted his wife that there was a situation. Master Z was so worried about the threat of a man shooting him, rightfully so, that he forgot about the wrath of his wife, and what lengths she would go to get the truth and protect her man. "Ooowwwuuuuhhhhaaaa! Hot diggity dog! I just get so giddy when I think about strong men going after the bad guy, and the girl gets to jump in and help save her sexy man!" Read the book!! I mean it! Don't play! This book is suspenseful with a side of steamy adult cudoodling between a married couple, and definitely some muscely men in sexy fighting action. The only complaint I had was that it could have been definitely longer, but it's ok, because...!! A few of the sexy menz in the story are getting their own books. Read this one and then pick up Not A Hero.

Love me some Master Z ❤️❤️❤️
OMG...I can’t even begin how much I loved seeing Master Z and Jessica again. Defiance is an excellent introduction into Cherise Sinclair’s next series. This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time reading and also had me hot and bothered a time or two. Master Z is just so swoon worthy and you can’t help but love the man. I can’t even begin to explain Defiance to you without spoiling it. It is suspenseful with a side of kink and lots of emotions thrown in. I devoured the book in hours and didn’t want it to end. Another fabulous read by Cherise Sinclair and I can’t wait for more from her. A definite must read!!!!

A treat for fans of both the Shadowlands and Mountain Masters series
A new book from my favourite erotica writer? Gimme! It's a good thing I follow this author on Facebook or I might have missed this little gem. It's a bridge novella that introduces us to the characters of a new contemporary series through the eyes of two of the most beloved characters of the Masters of the Shadowlands series. This is more a treat for the long-time readers and a way to whet our appetites for this new endeavor. I'm actually quite curious to see how Ms. Sinclair will handle a non-BDSM relationship and if the smutty scenes will be as scorching. After all the bar is set pretty high. Like the rest of her later books the focus here is on the plot and the relationships between the characters rather than on the sex scenes. Don't get me wrong, there was always a plot in her books but in the beginning it was fairly cliched and the books themselves had a lot more sex in them. Things have changed and to me it seems like a good change. I think Defiance can be read as a standalone but it would be a lot more enjoyable to those familiar with both the Masters of the Shadowlands and Mountain Masters series.

Good introduction!
This is a good story and great introduction to a new series! I have already read and enjoyed the series "Sons of the Survivalist" very much. I hadn't realized until recently that I had not read this particular book. So, I rectified that and hate that I had missed the introduction to that great series. This book is a must have before you start the series mentioned above!

Loved it..
Zachary is trying to keep his family safe when he picks up a stalker. Now a dear friend has died and he needs to head to Alaska for the funeral..will he lure his stalker to Alaska and wait him out? Will his attentive submissive obey orders and stay safe at home? Nothing ever goes right when you’re planning, right? You have to love The Shadowlands and all of the lovely folks who enjoy their BDSM on the side. Watching Z and Jessica build a life together from the start of the series is my favorite part of each book. To have this book be a follow up just for them is a great treat. Loved the espionage, loved the hot sex, as always, but most of all, loved the different personalities of Sarge’s sons. Being introduced to the new series of brothers is intriguing. They’re so different, yet..not. Can’t wait for the series to begin. As for Master Z and Jessica, it’s awesome to know that even your Dom/ husband/ psychologist needs to learn a thing or two from time to time. I can’t wait to hear more from these two in the future.

Defiance: A Masters of the Shadowlands Novella by Cherise Sinclair
Another absolutely brilliant book, I loved it. It has lead you nicely into a new series, which by the snippet I read looks very good indeed. Please, please tell me you are writing more Shadowlands Series. All this series is well written with good strong characters and each has a brilliant story too. I would totally recommend it to everyone.

Sympatique

Cherise ***standing ovation***
There are some books which don't need reviews. Then there are some authors who don't require any introduction. I keep repeating myself that I'm in love with this lady. She keeps up her mastery in the field through her works.

Contemporary Romance - not your typical Shadowlands
Defiance is a novella in the Shadowlands series. It serves to give an update on original couple - and fan favourites - "Z" and Jessica, and also to introduce a new contemporary romance series the author will premiere in January. I really like that she is starting her new series in this manner. Even if I wish she was writing certain other books for characters desperately in need of a HEA! This short story is listed as #13.5 in the Shadowlands series, but I think it should also be listed as 0.5 in the new series. The style of writing is much more romance than erotica. There are sex scenes between Z and Jessica, but nothing like we're used to seeing in the Shadowlands. Defiance is a contemporary romance with military themes. It was enjoyable and I think it will flow well through both series, although regular readers might not be prepared for the lack of steam. Ms. Sinclair is one of the few authors I know who can take the short word count necessary in a novella and still produce a cohesive, nuanced story with character development, emotions and background characters. I am still devastated that my favourite author is moving away from the BDSM scene - at least in her books. However, I am looking forward to following up with these new characters in her upcoming Alaskan series. They might not be Doms, but they sure are alphas!
