The Civically Engaged Reader: A Diverse Collection of Short Provocative Readings on Civic Activity

This is one of the best thematic series I have ever read. Poems, short stories, essays, articles, discussions --- and all thematically wound around the issue of being civically engaged. I cannot recommend this book too highly. I came upon it accidentally when a close friend of mine happened to mention it as a recommended book for a course she is taking. she did not say a lot about it but when she mentioned the title, I went to Amazon.com to look it up and knew immediately it was for me. I just pick it up walking through the house and look through it until I come to an episode/article that appeals to me in that moment and I sit down and read, hoping to find the thing that influences my thinking and my life. I always find it.

This book successfully blends writings from diverse authors. The reader is allowed the opportunity to review, compare and engage in discussions about a central theme from writers of different cultures and generations.

This book was needed for a course that I am taking in College. For someone who is not fond of reading big volume books. This book was full of Short reading of civic engagements however the impact it had on me made me fill as though I had read a Big Volume Book. Recommended for people who love to read but not large volume books. Magnificent choice of short Readings.

My book club is currently reading this and we have enjoyed discussing the different selections. We are a senior group and it gives us a platform to learn from each author and from each other. It has been tons of fun and enriching as well.

havent used it yet with the osher lifelong learning institute at my university but i will be using it in the fall and am sure it will be received well
