The Phonics Handbook: In Print Letters (Jolly Phonics) Spiral-bound – January 1, 1992

As a long time kindergarten teacher, I have been frustrated over the years with the commercial programs available for teaching phonics for children just learning to read.Jolly Phonics is the first program I have used that I truly love. It gives children the tools to read in a sequential manner so that no one is asked to guess at any step.The classroom results are incredible with 60% of students now writing in decodable phonics by end of November and the same number are reading simple decodeable consonant vowel consonant words and sentences plus harder words. Found the TES.com site invaluable for resource in how to teach. If you are able to use this program, can't recommend it highly enough. It doesn't solve all problems as 25% still struggle, however, even struggling kids are better off than in the past with a better understanding of process of reading and purpose of the alphabetic code. For the first time, I have no one who is not applying theirself and doing their best to learn. They all see the connections between letter sounds and reading.

Thank you Jolly Phonics. My girl refuses to learn sight word, to use any Flashcard.... Then Jollyphonics came in my life. One sound, one story, one language sign, one coloring and one song at a time (songs are free on Youtube), I did 3 sounds per week. 2 months later : she can read every single book, all sight words (no need to memorize them). She catchs up the expected level at her age (6 years old) and targets to be an advance reader ! Go for it. Her 4 years old sister can read too... Both are English second language kids.

I bought this book to supplement my daughter's kindergarten reading program (which is one size fits all and moves at a snail's pace with no teacher differentiation.) I heard amazing things about this program, and have not been disappointed. There are so many activities and reproducible games in this book that it is a steal at the offered price. We love it and my daughter's reading ability has soared. The authors explain very clearly and concisely how to use the book, and it is easy for anyone to pick up and use. Highly recommend!

Hi!Good book. Teachers can make their classes interesting by using the tips and other activities to make children have a great time learning phonics.

This is perhaps one of the smartest ways of teaching phonics to kids, particularly young kids and ESL students. It sets out to teach the 50 or so sound combinations. Because the letters/sounds are presented in groups of six, students can start sounding out their first words within a week.

Excellent condition.

This is a great program for teaching phonics to young children. I am using a portion of this curriculum with my 4 year old preschoolers. However, this handbook is really written for the kindergarten/first grade levels.
