Highly recommend this book! It's packed with insights and practical tools.
I found this book to be very understanding and sympathetic toward parents, while providing effective tools and strategies to interact with children under intense emotions. Most parents do not want to yell at children, and this book shows us why do we want to yell, how to redirect the emotions, and interact with children in a constructive way.And it goes beyond yelling. One section of the book is devoted to temperaments, which I found very useful to understand each child's unique temperaments and traits. Once mutual understanding is built, it is less likely to take certain undesired behaviors as personal challenges. In addition, the book suggests to take a mindful approach to observe and record parent's own feelings and reactions. I think this tool could be useful even beyond parenting contexts. Lasting the ABCDE framework is very practical to use when experience emotional reactions: Ask, Breath, Calm yourself, Decide what your child needs, and Empathize.

It is an easy guide, as to how to
This book is NOT ONLY for the parents who "YELL" at their children..........It is an easy guide, as to how to?, for any one who wants to change his or her behavior that one dos not like. Reading the book even makes one aware of the traits that one did not think one had !I wish the title of the book was diferent as many a people that would benefit by reading this book and more importantly following the excercises in this book would not read it just because they think they do not have children or they do not yell at them !I heard interview with the author on NPR and that motivated me to buy this book, though I NEVER yell at my son ...... The book is helping me to change some other of my habits for better living !Thank you Rona for the great work that you do and for writing this book !

If you're looking for a book that will provide good action, try the Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents
Two stars means "don't like" and that's a bit strong so I'd rate this book 2.5. I didn't find it all that helpful in providing a strategy. The one (only) take away I had was asking myself *why* I was mad. If you're looking for a book that will provide good action, try the Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents. While it's a bit off topic, it gives seven basic principles for your family to work on...working on one each day of the week...with three simple activities for each day. In the end, I think that provides more harmony, respect and balance.

Invaluable parenting resource
I have been a Marriage and Family Therapist for over 30 years and have a shelf full of parenting books. This one is my latest favorite.. I've already recommended it to several families and I just finished reading it. I like the way Is That Me Yelling? challenges parents to take a look at themselves and their behaviors when dealing with their children.

Short stories instead of practical advice
I thought this was a lot more practical, this is more like short-snippets and stories that reflect how others act with kids in different situations.Might work for some, but it was too fragmented to work for me.
