I would ignore the negative reviews…
I love this scanner! I don’t really get the negative reviews. For the price and the functionality you get, it’s amazing.I’m the type of person who does tons of research before I buy most anything. This includes scanners like this. I was fairly hesitant due to some negative reviews, but I decided to take a chance because I really loved how small, compact and minimalistic this was. I am so happy with my purchase.I have a Mac and setup was a breeze. The minimalist design and the tiny footprint is exactly what I was looking forYou don’t have to pay for any additional software for it to function (but I do think you have to download their app, which is free… I don’t know if this is an absolute requirement to use the scanner, but I installed their app because it comes with great feature that make it extremely easy to manage scans and save them. I actually love the features that it provides at no cost so I would recommend downloading it… again, it’s FREE)It just does what it’s supposed to do. One thing to notice is that due to its minimal size if you’re a bit of a perfectionist OCD person like myself you have to be a little more careful about how you load each page to ensure the scans are fed evenly. I assume this is an issue with any scanner but even moreso with something that’s as compact as this and doesn’t have the guides to ensure precise feeding. If you’re looking for a compact scanner, that is efficient, effective and easy to use, I would absolutely recommend this.

Perfect!
I got this Epson 50 scanner today, plugged it in, downloaded the drivers, and scanned a legal sized document that I can't scan on my old flatbed. Start to finish, the whole process was easy, peasy. It scans fast, and both color and black & white docs are crisp. The software interface opens on screen when you hit the scan button, stays open until you save your doc, and then quietly disappears on its own. I love it. I scanned a thick driver license that went through the scanner like deli meat through a slicer. So nice. Picture quality? Perfect. The scanner is compatible with my Win 11 Pro. It has a tiny footprint and plays nice with other devices, so I'm able to leave it tucked away behind the monitor on my desk for easy access. One of the best all-around-value purchases I've made in quite some time.

Easy to install, very legible documents
Works wonderfully. Fast scanning. Very legible documents. Extremely easy to install software. Intuitive to use. Definitely portable. Only concern is not with product, but Amazon shipping. Always request electronics be “hidden” or packed in another Amazon box to give the item some protection. This came in a mailer envelope with another product that had a totally crushed box (thankfully item was a rubber item) and this, which had a crimped end. Wasn’t optimistic it would be ok when used.

Simple to Use
The EPSON ES-50 is a basic single sheet scanner without a lot of frills. If you are looking for basic no hassle scanning from a single computer or device is just fine. For wireless shared scanning over a network, you must purchase the similar ES-60W. You must download the driver and software from EPSON onto your computer, but other than plugging it in a USB port nothing else is required. Very easy to use with one button scanning. It takes a gentle touch to get the paper lined up square since there are no paper guides, but for that you get a lightweight scanner with a small footprint. Since I plan to travel with it in my backpack, and it does not come with a case, I purchased a fitted case separately to protect it. I took a chance and purchased mine as "like new in original packaging" from Amazon resale to save 30 bucks. It came in generic packaging, but is like new and works just fine. Recommended.

2 of them Stopped working. Drivers are junk. Don't buy.
I have 2 of these and 2 dell laptops running Win11Pro. They used to work fine, then stopped being recognized by the laptops. I reinstalled drivers over and over on both laptops, swapped cables, tried everything to get either of them to work again so I can scan documents. They power on but aren't recognized by Scan2 software or the laptop. Nothing works. No customer support at Epson. Don't waste your money. Value for money is zero. Quality is zero. I now have 2 expensive paper weights. Thanks Epson.

Great for low volume document scanning
I occasionally need to scan documents. I used to have an ink jet scanner, but the ink prices got ridiculous and the printer would gum up if I didn't print often enough. This is extremely small and works fine for low volume scanning. I would buy it again.

Does a great job for what it is.
Like others, I found a mountain of photos after my mother died. Many old family pictures that I couldn't just discard but took up a lot of room. I bought this to scan and save those photos to a smaller package. Works well for the purpose. For color photos this unit is great. It's fast, easy to use, portable. Software has very basic controls for adjusting image quality. One big caveat, it does NOT work on old, glossy, black and white photos. Hard to explain the effect but the image itself is only black and white with no grayscale so everything is washed out. Having to use an old, slow, flatbed scanner for these.Overall I'm happy with my purchase. Pretty good value for what it offers.
