Ok at best horror film, a weak attempt at Breakfast Club meets Jeepers Creepers
I wanted to like this movie, I really did. It was just ok. I am a huge Lacey Chabert fan, she is good in anything she does. I love creepy horror films set in small towns or in rural areas and always found scarecrows a good source for a horror story, written or filmed. This movie just didn’t quite deliver. The film centers around a farm that has been abandoned for about 20 years, a farm that we find later is about to be sold to someone else rather than the family that owned it for generations (Lacey Chabert’s character is back in town to sell it). Somehow two teens who trespassing on the farm, hoping to find a place to literally roll in the hay, awaken an ancient evil that was trapped in the basement of the barn? Do barns have basements? Or was that just a lower level?Fast forward a bit, we meet the main cast of the film (sorry if this is a spoiler, but the two teens don’t make it). We meet a school teacher who doesn’t look a lot older than his students leading a bunch of kids on a school bus (which he is driving) to a farm to do some unpaid Saturday labor as part of their detention, the labor centered around removing a historic scarecrow to the town for their annual scarecrow festival. This farm “just happens” to be owned by the family of his ex-girlfriend, who also happens to call over to help at the same time a former friend of the teacher’s and another former boyfriend of hers, two men who would not be there if they knew the other was coming. Just for a moment it felt like one of the Hallmark movies Ms. Chabert is often in (and does quite well in).Only instead of an awkward love triangle and Breakfast Club meets Jeepers Creepers, it is just lots of running and screaming from CGI. The scarecrow creature looks like 2000se era CGI, a muddy, twisting morass of branches and, well, mud, that doesn’t quite seem to inhabit the same landscape or environment as the screaming and running cast does. If the CGI monster was the only problem it would have been a better movie but lots of things take me out of the film, from the fact that conveniently cars and phones fail to the fact that farm doesn’t really look abandoned 20 years to WHY IS THERE CORN PLANTED ON AN ABANDONED FARM to distractingly bad make up showing cuts (just looked like red lines drawn on the faces of the cast) to not really fleshed out characters among the students (there were either too many of them or the movie rushed too fast into the horror part). The design of the creature actually wasn’t bad and it did look scary, but aside from looking like many times it didn’t quite inhabit the same landscape, it suffered from one, not really looking very scarecrow like, and two would keep manifesting new powers without precedent. Not a great film, the cast was ok but not enough to carry the film. If you liked creepy scarecrow monsters maybe try the Jeepers Creepers films, at least the first two (I have not seen the third). This is basically a Syfy monster movie of the week and if you like those sorts of films then you may enjoy it.

"Just because it stopped doesn't mean it's gone."
I was lucky enough to watch this movie first on the Syfy Channel before buying it for future viewings (I knew exactly what I was getting). The plot is based on the standard slasher formula, strand a bunch of kids far from civilization then pick them off one at a time. It begins with a simple cornfield and a dopey guy planning a prank. But first, he needs a roll in the hay with his girlfriend. The trouble with old barns, as they soon find out, is old ladders will fail resulting in a bloody injury and the release of a thing that sometimes looks inky and liquid, sometimes burnt and fibrous. What is it? That's something that's never properly explained. And since the scarecrow in the cornfield stays put, it can't be that. It was, for over 100 years, chained in the lower regions of said barn. Trying to fathom what it might be is a fruitless venture, it just is, and it wants all the relations of the family that trapped it there. Anyone else who gets in its way is just asking for trouble. What I appreciated the most about this horror flick was the unconventional monster and that they took the mayhem on the road in their attempts to escape it. The action isn't confined to the farm, the barn, the cornfield, or the farmhouse. It also isn't limited to a single day or night. "Waking" this thing up has serious consequences. This is one time when sticking to a formula really pays off.

Scarecrows really are scary.
This is a different premise than some other movies. A family secret has been buried for 150 years, but because a couple of teens trespassed on private property, the evil has been released. Now it is killing anyone connect with the original family or comes in contact with the only living descendent (a lovely young woman). Lots of blood and violence and death. This is NOT a family friendly film, but teens and adults will probably enjoy it on a rainy afternoon.

Very good comparatively speaking
I've been binge watching the free with Prime horror movies lately, and this one is about as good as they get. When they were boarding up the windows and the truck caught on fire, I had flashbacks of, "Night of the Living Dead." Finding the gun, looking for ammunition, making Molotov cocktails, people disagreeing on the best course of action, and having no way to contact the outside world, are other similarities. This film, of course, is no classic, but it's among the best of its category here. I would rate it between 3 and 4 stars. No nudity or profanity, so it's safe for the kids.

I was creeped out how he moved & squirmed everywhere & every which way. I was jumping. I am a big horror fan & I love being scared. LOL I love Lacey Chabert too. Awesome job on this movie. Thanks!!

Qualitätsverlust
Ich hätte nicht gedacht das grad bei diesem Film die Bildschärfe nicht mit einbezogen wurden. Ist leider nur mindere Qualität. Kein gutes HD. Wenn man den Film zeitgleich in Tele 5/ohne HD sehen würde , wäre kein Unterschied feststellbar. Von diesem Kauf möchte ich unbedingt abraten. ,👎👎👎

Scarecrow
This was quite the little Syfy, gem. Lacey Chabert, (Party of Five) did a great job as the lead role. There are moments of genuine suspense and the special effects are very well done. I really enjoyed it.
