***Best lighted magnifier on the market***
I have searched for a long time for a high quality lighted magnifier. Unfortunately I have more often than not ended up buying lower quality items that were ok, but never really worked the way I wanted them to. This is a verified purchase, not a freebie/or paid review.I wanted a high intensity variable lamp, higher magnification, large viewing window, hands-free capability for intricate work, and high quality/sturdy design that would not immediately fall apart and last the test of time. This is all of that and more. I love it and use it almost everyday. One other note - there have been notes complaining of poor mobility at the base/lower joint and how it "broke" when someone tried to bend it...Let me state that ALL of the joints are very capable of movement, they just have to be adjusted (as noted in the instructions), and it is quite flexible in terms of ease of use.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Newer version can rotate horizontally, but the light could be brighter
I just got the lamp and was pleasantly surprised that it now allows rotation of the support rod at the base, so the lamp can move horizontally. The reach of the magnifier is now very good and the mechanical construction is very solid. The light is still not very bright. Also the lens is weaker than other similar magnifiers and the on-off switch doesn't always respond. So the design could still use some improvement, but I am glad they responded to previous comments.

Bright, solid light.
It is rather large. Also it would be nice if it could pivot left and right. However, it is really bright and seems quite durable.

The concept was pretty good but the product is cheap
I ordered this just over a year ago. The first unit arrived with a cracked base. The replacement was fine, although this product is strangely difficult to assemble. You have to get it to align just so while you hold heavy and awkward parts. Anyway, it sat mostly unused for just over a year. This weekend I took it out to paint miniatures. After a long session of painting, the light started to flicker, and I could smell something vaguely like burning inside. I turned it off and let it cool down. When I tested it, the light would only work on dim and I could not turn the lights off. I let it sit overnight and today not lights will turn on. Basically, after little use the electrical innards died. This is cheap junk except that I paid a premium for a quality product. I wish I paid $30 for a cheap light instead. It gets a star for having a good idea. But I recommend that you skip this product.

Make Sure You Own A Black & Decker Lamp Before Purchasing
We had a swing arm lamp that the desk clamp wore out, and would not tighten any-longer. We ordered this item, as it looked like it would do the job in the on-line pictures. Don't be fooled as we were. This unit is for a specific Black & Decker Lamp, and is not adjustable in any way to fit shafts of other diameters from other types of lams. Amazon does offer other clamps that are adjustable.

Trouble with Product
Took us an hour to put Two screws in to make it useable. WHY??? It was the WORST designed product I have ever used. That's NOT ALL!!! The directions told NOTHING about the Transformer Cord. After we found Where to plug it in, the LED Light Failed to work nor did the USB Outlet. I suppose the Transformer is Bad or perhaps the wiring going up to the magnifier light. Finally, Called Black and Decker Customer Service. They have NO PARTS to send me. So, they offered to send me a New Product to replace the New Product that I just got yesterday. They said it would take (4) FOUR WEEKS to get it to me. I could probably fly to China and get it quicker, but I'll wait. THANKS AMAZON !!!

Continues to be a great lamp
Just coming up on two years since I got this lamp. It’s been very useful for general desk lighting, but also the occasional need for magnification (fine print, small parts, etc). The range of motion (up/down/fore/aft) could be a little better, but it’s acceptable. I do wish it could pivot left/right just a little, but that’s minor. The USB port it has went bad about a year and a half ago. However, for the main purpose I got it (magnifier lamp), it works quite well.

Great natural light and magnification for tying small flies
Wasn't sure the price of this justified it or not, but it arrived and i set it up in no time. And wow.. just wow, the light is easy on eyes and plenty bright. Plenty of movability and none of the issues listed here by other reviewers are even an issue, just a bunch of people whining and complaining for no reason. haha :)Anyways the magnification is great and the light is beautiful. WOULD BUY AGAIN! In fact i have, i got another for my wife to use with her crafts. yes, its that good.

Good but could be better for the price.
Heavy base. Very clear optics and excellent lighting. Articulation could be better and I think the base to stem interface is not as robust as it could be. But clarity is top notch. This is a serious magnification work horse great for jewelers, watch makers or the like.

Lack of swivel is more important than I realized!
The media could not be loaded. I needed an "on the desk" or "on the floor" model because I can't use a clamping model on my glass-top desk.I read other reviewers who were unhappy with the lack of swivel, but I didn't anticipate it being such a problem. There is NO position you can either arm articulation other than up/down (and they don't have full range). The head rotates somewhat, but doesn't have full range, and won't stay put at the edges of its range.Due to the lack of swivel, the magnifier must be directly beside or behind my project. The best position for me on my desk is beside my work. But I can't use this position because the head can't swivel enough to make the work viewable. Behind my work is also awkward (it's possible but still hard to get it to view the flat surface) and requires me to move it every time I want to use it.PROs* the light is crisp* the base is very heavy so it doesn't feel like it will tip over* it remembers your last light setting* aesthetically, it's prettyCONs* the head won't stay up (see video) - which means I have to adjust my position and strain more* there's no cover over the lens - I hadn't thought about this, but my room gets a lot of sun, and without a cover there's no protection from starting a fire if the sun hits the magnifier* viewed at any angle at all, the lens suffers from chromatic aberration (fringing) - I get blue and yellow fringes against my black material - see picture which had to be at a pretty extreme angle so I could capture the effect on camera, but the problem appears nearly all the time for me* the articulations in the arm and head don't offer enough options for viewing angles of something that is on a flat surface (might be fine if hand-held?)* I have to get SO close to it that my chin hits the button for the light, which causes it to turn off* it's also really easy to accidentally turn off the light when adjusting the head* the power cable is in an awkward location, at the back of the bottom arm, near the base - this is exactly where I want to pick it up to move it* the lack of swivel means I need to move my project at awkward angles rather than adjust the lens a bit - a minor annoyanceThere were too many cons for me. Maybe it will work for you, but it really doesn't fit my workflow, and the cons are just too many for the price point. Sadly, I'm returning it and need to look for another option.

I can see clearly now...
This is a very nice unit. Just as described. Quite long and heavy base...but i love it's solid-ness. The variable lighting is perfect and I am able to tighten the swing arm. This one was open box with mild cosmetic wear on the base but an excellent deal considering the discounted price. Delivery was right on time. I was able to complete a long overdue micro 3d puzzle thanks to the magnification.

Great quality lamp and magnifier
The lamp is very sturdy and the base is very heavy. I needed a nice lamp with a magnifier for my poor eyesight and this fit the need -- with other options looking cheap.Advantages: good magnification, LED lighting, looks nice, base is a good counter-balance.Disadvantages: the arm and lighting end should be more adjustable, it's too limited. The light dimmer is strange, I would prefer just an on/off button and light-level button (not area pressing).
