Is the wire actually stainless steel - one of the reviewers stated that it isn’t.

No it’s definitely NOT stainless steel it’s very magnetic , some lower grades of SS are slightly magnetic but this is so magnetic that it must be normal steel. It does come on a nice reel and it’s clear plastic coated but as I wanted it for outdoor use I was really annoyed that it’s listed as SSteel

Do i need a crimping tool with this?

A crimping tool would be ideal, but I used a pair of needle nose pliers with no issues.

Is this product compatible with zipper hooks?

Absolutely yes Even if the zipper hooks are a little small you can bend them open to accept thicker wire You will have no problem

Would this be ok gore use in mouse cage to secure corner toilet to cage bars?

I could be. This is a flexible plastic coated wire that includes small clasps that you clamp together with pliers to lock the cable ends in place. You might be better with a stiffer wire that you can bend and wrap around itself to secure the item to the cage as the mouse may be able to chew the plastic coating if accessible.
