These are high quality wooden steps that work as a step stool for me & would work for my pets if my bed was lower to the floor.
These steps are not as tall as ones I purchased over 12 years ago but they work for me and would work for my cats if my bed was lower.Over 12 years ago I purchased a three-tiered wooden steps (shown to the left in the first & second photo and next to the bed in the third image) because I had an old cat that could no longer jump into bed with me. After she died and I moved, I re-purposed them for the last 11 years as a step stool into my bed that is almost chest high to me (I'm 5'5"). Therefore, I purchased these not for my current three cats but for me to be able to get into bed. These steps are high quality but do have an open and hollow bottom and are only partially carpeted. My previous steps were wooden, were fully carpeted, and had a closed bottom. With these I have to walk up to the top step to get into bed whereas with my other ones I only used the bottom step. After 11 years of that, the bottom step broke which is why I purchased these as a replacement. For comparison purposes when looking at the pictures, the measurements of THESE steps (shown to the right in the first & second photo and next to the bed in the fourth image) are:- 17" tall (from bottom to top at its highest point/step)- 24" (2 feet) footprint at bottom from front to back- 8" depth (front-to-back) for each of the lower two stairs by 15" wide (side-to-side); note the top stair is 12" depthThe measurements of my old steps were:- 24" (2 feet) tall (from bottom to top at its highest point/step)- 24" (2 feet) footprint at bottom from front to back- 9" depth (front-to-back) for each stair by 17" wide (side-to-side)In summary, these are high quality, not too tall, and are good enough for a human or small pets to use as a step stool. The fact that they are only partially carpeted is fine as the carpet is in the center where needed. In my opinion, these are too small for big dogs like Mastiffs, Great Danes and even German Shepherds. However, since my bed is high, these would not work for an elderly pet to get into my bed; however, it would work for most people who have beds that sit lower to the floor. I hope to get at least 10 years (or more) our of this stool as I have not yet reached their weight capacity of 300 pounds; I'm under 200 pounds. I'll be sure to update this review if it fails.

Attractive and sturdy but too Small for my Dog.
These steps are very solidly made. They look nice, however; the carpeted part of the stairs is slightly under 11 inches wide. If you look at the product, you will see that there is a wood border on both sides of the carpeted steps. My dog's paws hit this wood part and his paws slid out from under him. They look 'pretty' but are not functional for any dog who is of medium size on up, because their paws are going to slide on the wooden sides of the stairs. This is a foolish and dangerous design flaw. I would not recommend these for any dog save a small sized dog. Pet steps need to be 12-18" wide for a dog to safely go up and down them. Another bad flaw is that the the depth of these stairs is 8", which is the start of a standard depth for dog stairs. However, there is a lip on each step where the carpet goes under and attaches to the stair. This drastically reduces the depth of the stair. My dog freaks out and freezes in the middle or his back paws slip out from under him or he fumbles and gets hurt. Luckily it has not been a bad injury. I do not trust them unless I am watching him go up and down in front of me and he only does it because he's a good dog and listens to me. That lip take 2" off the depth of the stair. If you want a pretty piece of furniture, then these are your steps. If you want something that your dog is going to use and not be afraid to go up and down-I would skip these. I have an Irish Terrier. He is a medium sized dog. He weighs 35 lbs and these stairs are way too skinny for him. These are very well made but 10 1/2" is not a wide enough base for a dog to go up and down stairs. Having wooden sides is clearly a design flaw which makes them pretty but useless.UPDATED: I originally gave these one star. I changed it to two stars because these stairs are exceptionally well made. I built a house and many other things with my Father. These stairs are made very, very well. They are sturdy. They do not slip. Most stairs of this quality cost $300. It is a shame that they are not wider and the lip takes away from the depth of the stair. My dog has back hip problems. This makes these no good for him. My criticism is of the dimensions of the stairs. Were they actually 12" wide (15" would be better) and 8" deep-I would say these are the best stairs on the market at this price. These are solid oak. The side panels are dovetailed. They are exceptionally well made.It makes me sad to not give these five stars but the whole stair should be carpeted or made wider and each individual step needs to be deeper because of the lip which sticks out of each step. This manufacturer clearly knows what he is doing. I have flipped them over and pulled and yanked on everything and it is all solid and sturdy. I was astonished to see the dovetailing at this price.Add to that free shipping (Prime member) of an item which weighs quite a bit and it truly saddens me to not give these five stars. The dimensions just are not correct for dogs who are older or injured or skittish. The dog's paw hit those wooden edges and it slides out from beneath him and down he goes.

This is one of the nicest things I have in my house
My toy poodle is really ambivalent about these steps. Another reviewer explained it pretty well, that each step juts out a bit over the one below, so the available stepping/standing area is not quite as large as you might think. I put them in front of my big front window so the puppy could sit up there and look outside. I can coax her up there, but she's not entirely comfortable and doesn't go up on her own.Even so, these are so good looking and so well made, I'm keeping them. Sometimes I just sit on the top for a few minutes with my coffee and look out the window myself; the dog can do what she wants. If I follow through on my plans to switch out my current bed for a lower platform type bed without a box spring, these steps will come in handy to let the dog get up and down from the bed on her own. I think these steps would be the perfect size for that. I don't think the dog is scared of the steps, she just doesn't really see the point right now, but access to the bed would be enough motivation to change her mind.Honestly, I have actual furniture in my house, for humans, that was not as well made as these steps. I'm keeping them. Negotiations with the dog will be ongoing.

Stunning
These are the most attractive steps you could ever purchase ! I bought one set for in my front window for my 2 toy poodles. Then I realized they both wanted to be in the window at the same time sio I ordered another. Then, they decided they wanted to lay in the sun so I ordered a third. So it looked uneven. So I ordered a forth and it looks beautiful and my husband not only thinks Iβm crazy but he cut a piece of plywood to cover the top so itβs snug up to the window frame and I bought big fluffy pillows for on top. ****Not to mention we have two spoiled little Toy Poodles !
