Peacemaking Circles and Urban Youth: Bringing Justice Home

I bought this book as a text book for class and it is the best text book that I have purchased in years. This book provides a solid framework for those working with high risk youth at the community or agency level. Through the description of the work done in East Boston by the Roca community group, the text outlines principles for youth engagement and transformational development that are profound in their simplicity, exceptional in their effectiveness and easily applicable to a range of youth oriented settings. It is also presented in a simple but interesting language and format, which is especially good for students who have to read it quickly amidst a number of other texts. Most impressive was that this text reminded me why I wanted to go into the field of youth work. I bought it for a class, but I will keep it for my career. I definitely recommend this book.

This is a great book with interesting, practical ideas for reaching and engaging troubled youth. My only criticism is that it become repetitive about halfway through, without much new being said, just being restated in different ways.

I purchased this book for a class.. Great read. If you want a greater understanding of how peace making circles are useful..get this book.

While the book provides great insight into how organizations use peace making circles, there is a lot of deficit framing of historically oppressed youth of color and their communities. There is also an overall lack of analysis of crime and "problems in urban cities". The author ends up perpetuating stereotypes already present in the popular imagination.

For anyone interested in transformative/restorative justice and alternative forms of conflict resolution based in communities, reading this book will demonstrate to you the possibilities out there.

This book is amazing. If you have any interest in holistic youth development, you need this book.I continue to be very inspired by the author and the community she worked with, and regularly recommend this book to other educators. This book hold several keys to our current educational problems. Please read it!
