Any doorbell transformer that I have ever replaced is a 15 volt output transformer. **Q: There are 2 points, labeled "R" and "C", on the transformer where you attach wires with screws. What do "R" and "C" stand for? "Remote" and "Chime"?** A: “R” stands for “Red,” not rear. It is the hot terminal. The hot wires in 24 volt AC systems are typically red. “C” stands for common. **Q: Will this work with 16v chime** A: I talked to Nutone, and they said their chimes take only 16V. This transformer may eventually blow out the chime. We got a NEST door bell, and it is rated for 16V-24V and 10-40VA. I got this b/c I want the higher voltage and higher watt requirements. If the chime burns out, so be it.
