Meh...
I liked the first one slightly better but not by much. They both had there merits but the writing style of this one annoyed me. All her sentences were short and choppy (yes I know this is to be expected for a YA novel) and sometimes a bit nonsensical. Example: "his voice was cold. Not just cool but glacial." Really? Was it like this in the first book and I just noticed it less? Everything just seemed kind of disjointed and jumped quickly from scene to scene like I was being dragged quickly uphill in order to see the "exciting parts" waiting on the other side. It did not have the same flow to the storyline as the first did. Also, how many times can Kyla's (or Rain's, as the case may be) resolve "harden". Her resolve for the cause would harden and then become wishy washy and harden again three times in one chapter! It was also a bit baffling how many characters would be seemingly on the "wrong side" and then magically be on the "right side" and visa versa and then sometimes switch again. An example being that at the beginning her dad was nice and her mom was cranky and untrustworthy and then somehow the gears shifted and her dad was the threatening one and her mom was the one that was "understanding". I realize she was trying to figure out who to trust and who not and maybe the author didn't want you to know for sure who the bad and good guys were but A LOT of her characters were this way. What is it that made Kyla trust them one minute and not the next and then trust them again? Nothing that I could see. It got a little annoying how often she "suddenly wanted to tell it all" but "No. Danger." I know most of these things are just nit picky things but when things like this repeat so often, they distract from the storyline. Plus most of it was very predictable. So for a story that I only found to be okay in the first place, this was not an amazing addition. I will however read the third one since I have already read the first two.

Loved this book so much!
I have read countless books, and stories. So far this trilogy is in my top 5 favorites. I woke up at 3:00am and couldn’t go back to sleep. I reached for my “go to” sleeping aid AKA the current book I’m reading, which always helps me fall asleep. It is now 7:00am and I just finished it! I could not put this book down. This story has a fantastic, realistic, well thought out plot. It is captivating, intense, and emotional. I love the characters and enjoyed getting to know them and seeing them grow and change. The writing is very good, and flows nicely. Overall this is a very good book!

A strong 5 star book all around - author nailed it!
Terry is writing this series the way a series should be written. There's a great overarching storyline that is pulling you through and several smaller stories within that are in each book. She wraps up all the stories within nicely. This book is a true page turner and the author does a fantastic job of putting you inside Kyla's head. You go through their story from her perspective and can really feel her struggles with the memories. This is such an underrated book and I really wish more people knew about it. There's a lot going on but they all intertwine and her reactions to everything are realistic but not predictable. All in all I give this book a very strong 5 stars, as a stand-alone and as a continuation in a series. She nailed it!

Great book
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERSI love how this book is very captivating right from before it began. "Slated" left so many unanswered questions that were intriguingly unraveled throughout the book. The connection that Teri creates with the reader and Kyla is incredible. You could feel all of her emotions, whether they were confusion, anger, happiness, or sadness. With her memories slowly revealing themselves, and other people's sides of the story, it was up to Kyla to figure out her past all by herself. Teri's writing skills are indescribable. She is excellent because she knows how to keep the reader from turning the pages.

Teri Terry is a genius!
One of the best feelings in the world is opening a brand new book and discovering a new world of suspense and drama and basically everything that makes a book perfect. One of the worst is reading the sequel and it ruining this amazing book. This book doesn't do that. In fact, it certainly lives up to the first book; it is easily just as good.It dives straight back into the Kyla's story, developing her character bit by bit and revealing more and more of her past. The way Terry writes the book leaves you desperate for more - you get addicted! You think you know what is about to happen, but then at the last minute Terry throws in a curveball. There are so many twists and turns you literally don't know what is going to happen until the very end. There were many moments in this book where my heart was in my mouth. You never know who to trust! I promise that this book will leave you in as state of shock that leaves you needing to finish Kyla's story, I certainly couldn't wait to get the next book, 'Shattered'. I can promise that this also is brilliant, with many twists and turns but a very satisfying ending; no holes are left.I cannot speak highly enough of this series. Definitely one of my favourites by far!

The wreck of her memories
Second in a trilogy of dystopian near future science fiction novels for young adult readers. Recommended age for reading would be fourteen and up, due to some violence and adult themes. But it's good enough to be enjoyed by older readers as well. The series is the story of Kyla. Who narrates in first person present tense. She lives in near future Britain, which is the grip of oppressive government and where young people who don't toe the line are slated. A process involving memories being wiped and a new identity created.Kyla has been through this. Thus Kyla is not the name or the person she was before the process. But even after it, there still seems to be something very special about her...This volume contines right on from where the first book Slated ended. It has nothing in the way of exposition to bring those who haven't read what came before up to speed. So you are better off starting with that book rather than jumping on here. Those who have read it, read on.This volume runs for four hundred and twenty pages, and is divided into forty nine chapters. At the end of book one, Kyla learned a few things. In this book, she has to come to terms with those. And try and continue with her new life. But then an encounter with a person who seems to know a lot about her reveals more. She becomes caught up in events that could change the future of the country. She has to make some very hard choices. Not the least of them being: who can she trust? The writing style does grab the attention and the prose is pretty easy going, so the pages turn very fast. It does feel early on as if it's the kind of book where you're waiting for something to happen. But you keep reading because you're convinced that something will.Let's just say that it does repay your faith. The writing is very good at gradually revealing things. Thus come the final quarter you do know far more about Kyla and what's going on than you did at the beginning. And surprises and plot developments do come thick and fast. These are all driven by the actions of the characters rather than the needs of the narrative as well. Which is good writing.Throughout the book the reader is forced to think about that age old question: does the end justify the means? The writing never lectures you but lets you make your mind up. Which is also good to see.Kyla is in a very different place as a character by the end to where she was at the beginning. The end does do exactly what it needs to, also: leave you with a major cliffhanger that sets up events for the final volume of the trilogy very nicely. And leave you desperate to find out what does. The final volume Shattered will be coming along soon. I look forward to it. SlatedShattered

Fantastic!
I still cannot believe how late I am in the uptake of this series! The second book in the trilogy was incredible! So many twists and turns and unexpected shocking events! To those who have read Slated, you will know how far Kyla has come and what she has found out and I'm sure like me, it had you desperate to read Fractured. To those that are yet to read Slated, do not worry, I will not give anything away!I felt like I had my heart in my mouth whilst reading this, Teri was literally playing around with my emotions! The amount of times I gasped and went NO! I don't think I have read a book that throws you so much with all the unexpected twists and outcomes.I loved the way all the characters were developed so well. You really don't know who to trust, but I will leave it there for you to figure out yourselves. The only slight criticism I had for this one was I thought the beginning was a little bit too slow, BUT a quarter of the way in, it massively picked up the pace and then it felt like a race to the end. When the action kicked in, it tipped over to make Fractured even better than Slated!Argh there's so much more I want to say, but can't as it will spoil it, so I will leave it there. I am now diving in head first into Shattered!

Excellent
***This is book 2 in the series, there will be spoilers for book 1****Ms Terry. I want to hug you. I may start to get a bad name for myself amongst authors after my reviews on Ruth Warburton's Winter Trilogy, but I do really want to hug her. I have had a mammoth book slump and just when I thought I would never get out of it, Fractured came long. THANK YOU!!!!Fractured follows on from Slated seamlessly, Kyla got some memories back after the attack by Wayne in the woods, she was ruthless, brutal and left him for dead, but the thought of all that blood makes her want to cry. How could she of been a terrorist that hates the sight of blood? Why does she still keep remembering parts of her life before, the bus crash she couldn't of possibly been involved in, and the one that scares her the most - the one where she's running from some one, trying to break free.......Kyla is trying to be normal, to move on, to find out who she can trust, and that starts with the biology teacher, who's not a biology teacher but a guy from her past, Nico. Of course Ben's gone, presumed dead, and a new guys moved in across the road, Cam. Cam tries to build a friendship with Kyla, but she resists for a while, trying to remember who she was is taking up more of her life than she wants it to.When the past finally starts to fit back together (with Nico's help), Kyla's in for a few surprises, nothing is quite as she thought, she doesn't know who to trust and the world she's thrown into puts her relationship with her new family in danger, Kyla has to make a choice, her new life or the old one, but with loyalties in both she's struggling to do so.Fractured was a thrilling ride, not just in the shape of action, but the emotions Kyla feels through out, she struggles and the reader struggles with her. The reader doesn't know what Kyla is going to do, and they also don't know what she SHOULD do, its all as clear as mud, in a good way! Nico is suitably mysterious, a bit dangerous and extremely clever, you want to trust him, but can you? There are characters from Kyla's past brought into the forefront, and even they are telling her to remember, to trust herself, which is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Dr Lysander is brought into the mix a bit more too, the reader gets to know her, to understand her special interest in Kyla, and she has an important part to play in Kyla's final decisions. The reader is not presented with all the answers, but we find out a lot about why Kyla can remember, why she was slated, the bus crash, mum's involvement and the truth about THAT dream, who she is running from, who's she's running to and what happened to little Lucy.A fantastic read, every bit as enjoyable as Slated, but a totally different book, this is less about a newly slated trying to fit back into the world and more about a girl who has endless problems trying to find her way in a world of darkness, betrayal and loyalties that change at the drop of a hat. Add to that the fact that the Slated world is so real, such a possibility and set in the UK not too far from now, and its a little frightening. Dr Lysander presents the good side to slating, and the reader understands why it was introduced, and the benefits to it, but it is misused and Kyla shows that its not fool proof, it can be cheated. So. Ms Terry. Like I said, I could hug you, but instead (because thats slightly less creepy..)I'll say thank you - for a great read, a fun book that makes you think a bit, and most importantly for getting me out of a slump and restoring my faith in YA writers!

WHAT A SURPRISE
If I'm honest I only picked this book up because I wanted something quick to get into to pass the time I had to spend travelling. Having been pretty underwhelmed by the first book of the series Slated I didn't really have much loyalty to the series' characters when beginning this one; I really only started it because I couldn't find a better book. I feel that I need to eat my words and previous expectations right now however as this book was awesome! I've never felt such a different in quality between books in a series and I really got caught up in this plot as it was excellent, on par with the best dystopians out there like Divergent. The main problem I found with Slated was that it felt designed just to introduce you to characters and settings there was no explosive plot or tender moments it just established a society and teases at what is to come. This book however starts running and never slows down, the complete opposite of Slated. I met many new characters I loved and was really drawn into the action. Kyla is placed in a very unique position in this book and is torn in many different was, annoyingly all these ways have a romantic tension associated with them, but this book doesn't really stray into the sickly teen romance the first became it stays firmly grounded in dystopian/action/thriller territory.I would rate it as;★★★★★I did debate whilst reading if this book deserved 5 stars when its predecessor was so much of a let down but then my heart was ripped out by something I adored and I can't wait to see where things are taken in the third book after this.
