Rio Beach Wonder Wheeler Wide Beach Cart

We bought this 4 years ago for our summer beach trips and we are so incredibly happy with it! If it broke tomorrow, we'd buy a new one immediately. It's 2-3 of us at a time. It packs ALL of our beach things with room to spare. One year we were 3 adults and 2 kids...5 beach chairs plus toys and beach towels and a cooler bag with ice in it...it held it all. On a hard surface, you push it like a stroller. Once you get to sand, you turn it around and pull it behind you, tipped up on the larger wheels. Goes through loose, dry sand just as well as compacted wet sand. It's got a clip to hold the beach umbrella on the side of it. It folds up well. We still have the cooler bag for it but we don't use it. We have smaller cooler bags that work better for the 2 of us. I cannot stress it enough that this is the way to go. Yes, it's bigger than a wagon. We went the wagon route 1st and it was TERRIBLE! We had to walk half bent over to pull it cause the handles were so low, the wagons don't hold as much (thinking about the chairs in particular) and once you hit sand, you need 2 people to lift the wagon up and carry it because no matter what they say, those wagons don't run over sand. Buy this cart. It is a life changer for the beach trips. We are NEVER going back.

Bought this well-reviewed beach cart because at my and my wife's "advanced ages," slogging along for six or so uneven city blocks in the heat to our usual beach, lugging beach chairs on our backs, plus an umbrella, beach towels, water, and assorted other beach necessities was getting to be an unpleasant ordeal. We paid the premium for this model with larger back wheels because it looked like it would make transporting all of this stuff over the sand even easier, and we were right. The minimal assembly required to get this sturdy cart ready for action took a few minutes, and this cart--which easily held two chairs, a large umbrella, beach towels, a couple of bottles of water, a large carryall, and other supplies--thanks to having both a front and back set of wheels (some other similar carts we saw on the beach--and there were lots of them--didn't have any, much less the smaller, maneuverable double front wheels this cart does, and apparently had to always be tilted and pulled on the bigger back wheels only) was very stable and not "tippy," and very easy to steer, even over uneven city sidewalks and curb cuts. Once you are on sand, you have to reverse the cart, tilt it onto its wide wheels (again, many other similar carts we saw had narrow back wheels, and it appeared that this made pulling a loaded cart on sand a lot harder) and pull it. When done it was a matter of a few seconds to fold the cart for storage. We were very pleased with this purchase, which made our trip to the beach much more pleasant.

I've not taken the cart to the beach yet, but I did take it for our latest pool picnic outing. With two kids and all the things associated with swimming, it made distant parking much less difficult. Assembly. Putting the car together took about 10 minutues. This is from opening the box to finished standing cart. The front wheels snap on. The rear wheels require a modest amount of assembly. Insert the axel rod, place the spaces on the rod, place the wheels on the rod, insert the cotter pins. No tools required. Usage. The cart navigates asphalt, stairs, and ramps well. It folds up much the same as a baby stroller, and fits easily into the rear of my prius. The top bag has four grommets that fit on the provided posts. The top bag is deep, and exactly the size for holding three clear plastic storage boxes (See Iris Modular Clear Box, 6.0 Quarts ). The large net holds 4 beach towels, a purse, a bag, another purse, and a hookah (not sure why that was in there, but some brought it, and it all fit.) I've also placed a large Coleman ice chest on the bottom, which cuts the net bag capacity down by half, but certainly makes hauling the cold stuff around easier. The side has a pocket for a beach umbrella. This works great for holding the Sport-Brella Umbrella (See Super-Brella - Portable Sun and Weather Shelter , another cool item for the beach). The pocket also works well for holding one swim noodle. I had two, so attached the second with some velcro tape. In fact, velcro is a big add for this cart, since it has plenty of places to strap on all those little things that seem to abound. The bags are much easier to get into when they are strapped hanging on the outside of the cart. Cons. I gave the cart 4 stars instead of 5 because of these things: 1) it has no locks for the wheels. This will not be a problem on sand, but on hard surfaces, you need to park it so it won't roll away; 2) the cart is a little unstable front to back (it is very stable left to right), so be careful to load things evenly, else it tends to tip. These are minor items, easily handled so long as you are aware and respond appropriately.

This cart is by no means a heavy duty piece of equipment but it is adequate to carry a lot of stuff to and from the beach. Folds for easy transport, has a detachable bag, another large mess bag for smaller items and is designed to hang chairs on the front. Even includes an umbrella holder on the side. I bought this because I have two young kids and wanted an easier way to carry our stuff. I transported the following items 400 ft from the house to the beach in one trip daily: Large umbrella, tent, two soft coolers, diaper bag, 2 beach bags, portable stereo, kite, football, 2 regular and 1 kids beach chairs, towels, and a small raft. I might have forgotten something but you get the idea. It holds a lot of stuff and the large wheels make the trip over the sand much easier (pull it backwards behind you, won't push forward through sand), Although it's still a workout to pull it fully loaded, it's much easier than than having several people drag all this stuff and even worse, making 2 or more trips YOURSELF to set up your beach spot for the day. I was able to carry everything and let my wife hold the baby and tend to our 3 year old. I got several comments from other beach folks who were amazed I got our whole "beach camp" on that one cart. I question the construction, might fall apart after a couple of vacations. But it is light, so I guess thats the tradeoff. But if it lasts two seasons I'll be happy and gladly buy another one.

This is our 2nd Rio Beach cart and I have high hopes! Our first was purchased 10 years ago and while still in working order, it's taken a beating over the years and the time was right to replace it. I was so pleased with the longevity, convenience, and portability of the first cart, I was definitely looking to get the same again. The cart arrived packaged tight with some minor assembly required. It took all of 3 minutes to install the wheels and no tools are required so needless to say, initial setup was a breeze. They made a few changes to the updated cart which I will point out in this review. First are the wheels - previous versions were rubberized 2.5 inch wide wheels in the back which worked fine albeit a bit more difficult to pull through sand. These are now much wider hard plastic wheels which admittedly, I've yet to use but have seen them in use on beaches and it looks much easier to pull. The front wheels remain as before and pivot 360 degrees. This is very convenient when rolling through a hotel / boardwalk as the cart handles like a child's stroller. Folding and unfolding is a breeze with spring-loaded handles on the sides that simply click on knobs when open for a VERY secure tight fit. Once open you have storage on the bottom under the mesh lining as well as the mesh portion itself. We typically put our heavy beach bag/cooler under the mesh bag and any other bags etch in the mesh bag resting on the cooler/bags. Depending on what you are used to, this could be a pro or a con. The new cart comes with a tough removable 'beach bag' now that simply rests on grommets in the handle. This bad is that it takes up some space from the mesh compartment. For example, we used to be able to fit a 42" boogie board in the mesh compartment on an angle but that will no longer be the case. That being said, I really like the bag and it's multiple pockets. It can easily stay on the cart or be taken off and ultimately, I think I will like this feature more. The second addition is the side strap and pocket for umbrellas. Personally, we don't use this but it's definitely a nice addition. A shovel can easily be strapped in or any other similar shaped beach tool you are looking to bring. We have two very large beach chairs which include footrests and pillows and they easily fit on the end bar and carry very well when pulling on the beach. If you go often, I absolutely would recommend this cart!

I did a ton of researching for just the perfect hand cart for the beach. The Rio Wonder Wheeler Cart made the most sense and it didn’t disappoint. You push it easily on ‘all 4’ over firm terrain, then tip it back slightly and pull it on the 2 big wheels over the deepest soft sand. It handled our cooler, a big shade with poles, lawn chairs, 2 purses, and a back pack with clothes, plus beach towels. It folds and unfolded easily, stores great too, and it’s not heavy. Our local civic club was super impressed with it, also. We used it to haul a trash bag when we cleaned up the ditches and roadway on Earth Day. Super useful, and well made Cart. Love it!!!

I've had my Rio for a couple of weeks and had the opportunity to use it last weekend. I live along the Florida Panhandle Gulf Coast and the beaches down here are wide and covered with deep sugar fine (white) sand. The beaches down here are some of the most beautiful in the world, but a challenge to walk across carrying your entire beach going paraphernalia. I loaded up my Rio with a medium cooler (52 quart I think) filled, two beach chairs, umbrella, towels, beach blanket, etc., etc. All total around 70 to 80 pounds. The Rio worked flawlessly. I did have to pull it, I did have to tilt it back to the two back wheels, all of which the instructions tell you to do. It did require work to pull it through the sand, but the large rear wheels made the job much easier. This coming from someone who has carried all the afore mentioned gear by hand across the beach on many, many occasions this cart is worth every penny. It is well made, easy to assemble, and folds easily (so easily you want to make sure you know where your fingers are before you start the process). The only fault I've found with the cart is the removable tote bag. The bag has two flaps with sewn on pouches for small items (sunglasses, sunscreen, cell phone, etc). These pouches started coming un-sewn as I was taking the bag out of the box (I'm not kidding on this). If this is the only fault I find with the cart, I can live with it.

Warning...order this with an extra two weeks in case you have to replace the front wheels. I bought this new 2013 model. Mine arrived defective. The front wheels plastic tabs broke. Was easy and no hassle to get replacement wheels from the manufacturer. They were obviously refurbished, but they work, perfectly, with the new metal tabs. So I know i'm not the first one to have this problem. I am pleased with the cart, otherwise. This cart was to replace my old cart which was 5 years old and after many trips to the water park and several vacations and hard used by kids, had finally rusted, ripped and the front wheels keep falling off. The love of this cart (even the narrow back wheels) alone would have earned this new cart 5 starts. HOWEVER, I did not get to use this new cart for the day I had planned because it was inoperable, thus I am highly annoyed that I had to lug everything around while waiting for replacement parts. This drops it 2 stars. Difference between my 2008 and 2013 model. Larger wheels on the 2013 model, but they are hard, non flexible plastic. My 2008 model had skinny back wheels with a softer more rubbery tread feel to it. I hope the new big wheels don't crack as I use this on cement (at the water park) more than on sand at the beach. The 2013's cargo area for the toys is smaller. I could get a boogie bard in the older model, not so now. I thought I would love the removable tote bag.....It is annoying. because it makes the cart liable to tip if there isn't a counterweight in the big area (think purse on an umbrella stroller). It pops off too easily, but still nice to be able to remove. Bad thing about the tote bag is it covers one of the bars I used to hang towels to dry. Don't want to put towel weight on the net, so down to one towel drying area (where the chairs are supposed to go.) I also hate the hand grip being in the center. I use two hands to push this. Not sure why they couldn't just pad the whole handle or leave it off. The 2013 model is easier to fold. The 2008 model, the wheels got tangled up in the netting and you had to be careful lest you rip it. New 2013 features I see, but haven't used... a space for an umbrella.

Très pratique. On i met tout notre matériel de plage: 2 parasols. 3 gants de baseball. Une pelle un sceau. Set de Bocci très lourd...3 chaises de plages 2 pallet de plage. 2 encrage de plage 2 ballons 1 sac glacière assez lourd...sac de plage autres. Roues avant encore correct mais semble un peu fragile. Roues arrière super dans le sable ça roule bien. Le filet correct.

Vraiment pratique pour la plage. Je n’étais pas certain d’acheter un tel chariot de plage car je l’utilise uniquement pour une courte période en vacance. Par contre, le chariot aide le transport de tout ce que l’on apporte sur la plage. Naturellement, on apporte plus que moins de trucs. Malgré les grosses roues arrières, le déplacement sur le sable n’est pas facile. Pour ce qui est de la construction, c’est bien, mais les deux petites roues avant me semblent fragiles. Je vais voir avec la deuxième saison d’utilisation en 2019.

Rio Beach Wonder Wheeler Wide Beach Cart Was included at the house rented in Wildwood and ordered one right away when back home: fantastic to carry all the stuff from the car to the beach. I intend to use it at home for groceries, camping material, etc.
