I don't know what to tell you about that; I've been using these filters for years and every time I replace one, the old one is full of sediment and minerals. So it is removing at least some of the minerals from my very hard water. They also remove chlorine. And as a result my skin and hair are less dry, skin less irritated, hair less crunchy. They do the job and I will keep using them. I can tell when one wears out and I need a replacement. Stick with the name brand, the generics have less copper in them and won't work as long. Since writing this review, I've read that filter like this are called "KDF" and while they don't remove hard water minerals (like calcium) what they do is change those minerals so that they don't deposit onto surfaces. And for me this is true. I never have scale in my shower, for example, even though I live in a place with hard water. However with that said we have well water that is extremely high in Magnesium and Iron. We have a whole house filter and a water softener. The tubs get the rust color quickly and easily. If I'm not on top of it the sulfur, rotten egg smell will happen. So without this filter and shower head we have trouble as the wife and I have very thick curly hair. If the water is not filtered well we both have frizzy Afros. You can feel the unfiltered water on your skin as well. Feels as if the soap is never rinsed away. And the smell is terrible. This filter is fantastic...it takes care of all the hard water issues in the shower. Our hair feels great and is manageable, skin feels refreshed and rinsed well. The filter that came with the shower head was used for a year and a half. I could tell once it was full and took it out and shook it, black water, disgusting. Soaked it and took it out side and man handled it to clear it a bit and used it again for a few months. Just got married and purchased a home, yes I'm a cheap arse. I will certainly just buy these every 6 months as Amazon and it's sellers make life too easy. We are proof these work very well as our water is very hard and it gives us great hair and skin.
