If you have a toddler or preschooler who loves trains and already has trains, this is still a GREAT product! My son will mix and match with other trains from ikea or even the random train toy we buy on our travels, and it works great on this little tabletop. Very vibrant, lots of story telling possibilities here. Feels like I will have this thing in 20 years and ask my son “hey do you want this? I don’t need this anymore, please just take it!” I will say it is very heavy. Pro to it being heavy is that they don’t move it very easily on the ground. Con to it being heavy is it can be a little bit of a safety hazard if your little one is getting a little too excited on a table (watch out toes!) or if your little one INSISTS they MUST carry it. This will hurt your foot, their foot, baby brother’s foot if it’s dropped. Just.. watch your toes if you’re not the one handling it and it’s not on the ground lol. May be a slight pro if you’re ever dealing with a robbery, just swing this thing at them. Overall, I do not regret buying this one!

Oh wow, where to start with the Melissa & Doug Wooden Take-Along Tabletop Town? This toy is a game-changer for playtime in our house. First off, the quality is exactly what you'd expect from Melissa & Doug—solid, sturdy wood, no fear of it breaking anytime soon. The 18 pieces are a mix of buildings, vehicles, and even a little bridge, which means there's a ton of variety to keep my kiddo's imagination running wild. We've had countless rescue missions and road trips across the living room—and that's all before lunchtime! I love the size of it, too. At 15.4 x 11.0 x 2.6 inches, it's perfect for small hands and easy enough to pack up and take on the go. Whether we're off to grandma's or just dinner at a friend's place, it keeps my little one entertained and quiet, which is a total win. The fact that it's a tabletop set-up means no more bending over to pick up pieces from the floor (my back thanks you, Melissa & Doug). And adding to that, the setup and pack-down are super simple—everything fits back into the play board which doubles as a storage case. Honestly, it's a breath of fresh air to find a toy that doesn't involve screens or annoying sound effects. It's all about creative play, problem-solving, and fine motor skill development. And the rescue vehicles? Total hit. My kid feels like a hero every play session, and it's wonderful to watch. Seriously, if you're on the fence about getting this for your child, I'd say go for it. The Melissa & Doug Take-Along Tabletop Town has been an awesome addition to our toy collection, and I have a feeling it's going to be well-loved for years to come.

Great present for train lovers. Really great for travel too

Melissa & Doug have done it again! I have two boys (2.5 and 3.5 yrs old). Their birthdays are just a couple months away, and we decided to get them a train table with the full M&D track. BUT, I wanted to ease them into it -- as they've never really played with trains before. I saw this take-along version and thought it'd be a perfect lead in. The plan is for it to be open and set-up under the tree on Xmas morning, so I can't yet tell you how the kids react. But I just played with it for a good 20 minutes.. if that tells you anything. Here are my pros and cons right out of the box. Pros: 1) VERY solid construction. What I've come to expect from M&D. Wood is thick and sturdy. Clasps and hinges feel strong and durable. 2) Nice finish/paint job on the track itself. A few minor imperfections, but overall, consistent and well done. 3) Buildings/decor painted on both sides. Some sets I've seen have only one side painted. This looks good from all angles. 4) Even without any decor/buildings, it is fun to use the track. My youngest is on the spectrum and not always the most gentle or purposeful with toys. I like that I can teach him how to push the cars before messing with the decor -- but can add those pieces easily for his older brother. Cons: 1) 2 cars travel great together, but you'll get an occasional derailment on turns with 3 cars travelling as a unit. Not a huge issue at all, but worth noting. 2) While the sliding gondola is a cute touch as a moveable element, within a day I imagine it would cause paint to wear off the 'mountaintop.' I doubt I'll give it to my kids -- at least not any time soon. 3) I really wish the inside had compartments for the pieces. There's so much space that all the pieces will just be banging/jangling around in there -- should you actually use this for travel. I will probably wrap pieces in a small dish towel when storing them to negate this.

My 20-month old granddaughter LOVES this set! she heads for it as soon as she's in the front door. easy to move pieces around & reconfigure as her imagination allows. Pieces easily store inside, locks together & has a carrying "handle" (somewhat flimsy, but you can't have everything!) which makes clean up a breeze! Highly recommended.

My son loves this. I purchased this for my child’s 2nd Christmas because it is compact and he has a love of trains. I bought the pack of Melissa and Doug trains to add to it. It is worth the price. It holds up really well for being banged around by a toddler. You get what you pay for. It is nice to see things made of quality. I prefer that over poorly made junk.

We use this as our “travel entertainment” especially when we sit down at restaurants. It keeps my son entertained the entire time & its quality is phenomenal. We get compliments/requests of where we got it from. It’s easy + lightweight enough to travel anywhere. I’d highly recommend for toddler parents!

OK this is such a great quality of toy for the price. My daughter has spent hours playing with this.! Gets her little imagination going! The magnets are good they do what they are supposed to do! It all connects together really well! There is a a good range in variety pieces included in the box! One of my daughter’s all-time favorites! She is 2 1/2 This is one of her immediate go to! We got her this for Christmas and I think it was her favorite toys. She opened that morning.

My toddler is OBSESSED with this toy! It’s also easy storage which is nice!

Perfect ! It is a gift for a three year old & I am pleased as a retired kindergarten teacher to find it is age appropriate and beyond my expectations! Very happy with my purchase.
