critical to recovery to make sure leftovers are hot enough to kill bacteria
I had a bone marrow transplant, and It's critical to my health that leftovers are heated to 165 degrees. This thermometer is a quality product. Packaging says "Made to our exact specifications in China." Would be better if it were made in the USA, but at least they claim the quality control is the same as products made in the USA. It's easy enough to take food out of the microwave to read the thermometer. In my experience, it's hard to read any thermometer through the glass of ovens and microwaves. They have wireless thermometers for regular ovens, but I haven't seen a wireless microwave thermometer. The thermometer has a cover to pierce the food before inserting the thermometer. Instructions are very clear to pierce the food with the cover and then to insert the thermometer. I reserved a star because I haven't had it long enough to know whether it's durable. It seems to be. Hold the thermometer by the sides or the ring at the top to avoid smearing the markings and making them illegible

Innovative ! and it works well!
Innovative! It really does work in microwave.. keep it there in the oven, inserted into the food. No metal .. the 'stem' is glass with a red-inner liquid .. The large protective cover does not merely proetct the stem when not being used, ut it is used to create (push!) a 'tunnel into the food , into which the bare glass stem is gently inserted .. This manner of protection is the 'extra feature' , necessary for my 5-star rating. NOTE: Max temp capability is 220deg F without damage.amd PLEASE onte that any microwave oven can (and often does!) heat water well-above 212 deg. !!! Your oven's 'User Maual' will surely address this! .. the topic in physics is called : " super-heated water " ... Follow your oven's guide!---My criteria:5-star: does the job well, with extra advantages4-star: does the job well3-star: helpful but doesn't accommodate all needs that one would expect2-star: sketchy performance at best1-star: Fails in significant ways ; but they showed up for evaluation0-star: Where are they hiding???

Poorly designed.
Major problem in that it is very, I say again, very difficult to read the temperature . The red liquid stream is thin and there is no contrasting background. Impossible to read through a microwave or oven door and quite difficult even in your hand.I found and ordered an older model on EBay..

Failed Device
The fluid channel showing the temperature is so narrow that I cannot read it. The device is completely useless. I remember that a prior review said the same thing. Do you quality tests these devices?

Works fine for the microwave for meats.
Works fine for the microwave, but sure miss my microwave with plug in thermometer. It was lighter and would stay put better in things like meat loaf. But poor Microwave left the house that sold, was purchased in 1979. And this microwave came in the house, so at least I have something to use for meats.

Hard to read, need great eye sight.
The Taylor Connoisseur Microwave Thermometer works but is very hard to read, especially threw a Microwave door. Red line in thermometer is very thin, like a small needle which they try to magnify. Use of white dish or white behind Thermometer improves visibility.

Good item
This item does a good job in the microwave. I never knew that there was a thermometer that could be used in the microwave. It did arrive on time and in good condition.

for meat only, not candy
The thermometer is for use in meat only, as it only goes to 200 degrees. I wish you had a microwaveable one that could be used IN the microwave that would go to 400 degrees for candy.
