The corner edges go a specific way so it may confuse you at first, but they are universal tiles. **Q: How thick is the matt?** A: Maybe 1/2 inch. If it will get heavy usage (daily) I would recommend something solid. Between my two girls the numbers and letters kinda curl and don't stand up well to being walked on alot. Plus I have to constantly keep putting it back together. **Q: Why do you recommand not using on carpet? I don't have any hard wood floor in my home.** A: The puzzle pieces are very light and almost float over the carpet, they would sit more secure on a flat surface like hardwood floors. However I do have it set on my carpet and as long as it's set big enough, my child does not get to the edges and move it around.
