Awesome, but some flaws
This is amazing and wonderful music. I love this genre in general and this particular production is excellent, however, there are a few flaws in the recording. The recording engineer made some mistakes on setting mic levels for her voice. On many of the peaks in volume, I can hear the mic overloading. It's distortion that mars and otherwise outstanding performance. Track 4 is one track where her voice becomes distorted on the loud passages. It's unfortunate because she has a beautiful voice.

A Must Have!
Having grown up in the USA, I've always been moved to experience other cultures art, spirituality, music, foods, etc.. Listening to "Music of the Persian Mystics" is a feast for the senses. The artists who composed this beloved CD are nothing short of genius. This is how I can describe my listening experience: a mystical journey on which I didn't want to return, delicious, ripe, heart, soothing, delicate, longing, exquisite, love, restorative, delightful, pure passion.. I could go on, but lastly, the music opens the heart to the creative tapestry of our world community, that I for one, could not exist without. It is food for the soul, and my hope is that listening to this music could bridge the gap of all politics, religions, and the illusion of separation we humans think there is among different cultures. I can only want more of this!!

great recording & notes
Great Sufi poetry (3 ancient poets, 1 contemporary) sung by a great voice (she also does western opera) backed by a terrific instrumental ensemble. The notes on recordings by this label are sometimes skimpy and general; the notes for this recording are excellent, including information on the perfomers, poets, instruments, Sufism, and the booklet includes all lyrics in Persian script and English translations. The booklet is in several languages, the usual custom for the label, but is thicker than many because the notes are (thankfully) more detailed. Great work, ARC Music, for circulating this CD around the world! And kudos to the artists.

Beautiful but not purely ‘Persian’.
This is a perfectly acceptable production in its own terms: lyrics provided in both ‘Persian’ and English, but in my own stage of learning this musical tradition I’m looking for the real thing rather than a fusion with cellos and saxes. As a singer in two traditions, I’m afraid that the technical demands of each genre, and in particular the differences in voice production do impact on one another, and while Jooya’s performance is both musical and moving, it is difficult not to feel it just a bit too smooth for the material. Maximum respect to her and to this production but in answer to Amazon’s fairly narrow question I have to say it didn’t meet my particular requirements, but it is beautiful, well produced and I shall be happy to give it away to an Iranian friend whose grounding in the tradition will allow them to make a better informed judgement.

Impressive music
I liked this and found myself playing it in the car more than i though i would. I would say though that its a bit heavy and dour in places rather like some Kurdish war music a friend gave me to listen to. The fact that its possibly older in style accounts for this? Some of the lest intense repetitive stuff is nice and she has a beautiful voice and i am not sorry i bought it but it can grate if played too often. The Farsi language is a lyrical one and pleasant to listen to but the music itself is best savoured in small doses like a rich highly flavoured dish.

An excellent collection of beautiful familiar classical Persian songs
An excellent collection of beautiful familiar classical Persian songs, that I used to listen to when I was very young and some new songs, all beautifully sung by Zohreh Jooya, who has a delicate an d clean voice and very skillfully supported by the musicians on this CD. Highly recommended.
