Finally, a Modern Glucometer
I've been using this for two years, and it is hands down the best glucometer I've ever used. No more poorly-designed, cheaply made, expensive, giant plastic gizmos with bad user interfaces that feel like they were designed 20 years ago. No more depending on insurance companies to tell me which overpriced strips they will pay for, then change their minds a year later. The iHealth glucometer is inexpensive, the strips are inexpensive (and can be shipped the same day to me if I get in a bind), and the iHealth app is very modern and well designed. I have Amazon send me recurring shipments of the strips and tweaking your deliveries is very easy. These days my Type 1 Diabetes management is all done on my phone. I use the My Fitness Pal app to count carbs, the iHealth app to test my blood sugars, and RapidCalc to do my insulin calculations. My A1C has literally never been this good. Switching to this glucometer and this process is the best thing I've ever done for my diabetes aside from the brief period I was able to afford a pump. I'm on my second iHealth glucometer (lost the first while traveling - yes they are small and cheap enough to travel with a backup!). In the two full years I've been using these, I have not experienced any of the inaccurate measurements that others have claimed here. I can't explain those reviews. I will say that with my old iPhone it was a little harder for the camera to read the QR code in darker rooms, but haven't had any problems with my iPhone 7. I keep the app on my wife's phone in case something happens to mine. I encourage every diabetic I know to look into this. Take control of your health and your money.

iPhone APP update - won't take a reading
I converted to this device from a competing device because of it's small size and the "convenience" of avoiding manual data entry into my iPhone. After 2 months of use I had mixed results, followed by a recent deal breaker. Observations: The Good: - This device is amazingly small. - The price is very affordable at the time I purchased it (I bought two, see below) - I set up an Amazon "subscription" order for testing strips, which is a nice convenience. The Not As Good: - This device reads high compared to my other devices. After purchasing a second unit which reads a littler lower, I proceeded with only using the iHealth device. (I assume the device is within +/- accuracy requirements, so I'm not accusing the device of not being "accurate." It just seemed to me to be biased in the + direction. This is a subjective observation.) - The "convenience" of use is impacted by needing to use a 3.5mm plug to Apple lightening connector. And the order of plugging them in seems to be important, but I learned to live with it. This is the first "ding" on convenience. - The software does not have an "A1C" estimator included. So I manually enter each reading into my other iPhone app which does have an A1C Estimation feature. This is the "second" ding on convenience. The Deal Breaker: - On going to take a measurement, the iPhone app suddenly needed sign-on credentials. Nothing I did seemed to work. I went to a computer browser to open an account online. Using those credentials in the app produced a vague system error message. - I had to go find my previous device and use it. Fortunately I had a few testing strips. - I submitted an online support request. The email response says they received it. It has been less than a day, so I decided to call the support number in the email before submitting this review. The phone number informed me that due to COVID-19, while everyone is working from home, nonetheless, they are not taking phone calls, only online support tickets or email. Conclusion: - I can't recommend this device. - I can't recommend this company. - I've cancelled my subscription for testing strips. K

She is in high school and is for lack of better terms embarrassed to have to constantly test in front ...
I have a 15 year old daughter that was diagnosed with Type 1 about a year ago. She is in high school and is for lack of better terms embarrassed to have to constantly test in front of her peers. I bought her the iHealth BG1 Align Glucose-Monitoring System because it’s small and connects directly into her iphone! She never goes anywhere without her phone, so now she also has no reason to not test. ;) I love that it records her results on a very easy to use app. From the app she now has the ability to export her results into excel spreadsheets to share with her doctor. There was only one thing we didn’t like about the meter, and it was the lancing device that came with it. My daughter is highly receptive to pain and was constantly being bruised by lancing and it made daily activities difficult for her. We saw an ad for a Genteel in DiabetesHealth and it claimed to be pain-free. It came with a 120 day money back guarantee so I figured I couldn’t lose anything. She felt not even a single poke and loved that it came with stickers so she could decorate it! Now she’s found the perfect meter and the perfect poker and her outlook on living with diabetes has changed for the better! :)

I'd still recommend the BG1 for those that use their smartphone all the time and wanted tie their testing into other apps
The BG1 is a good device but it can be so much better. I've been using it for a few months now. I love the size and portability but hate that it eats batteries like no ones business! I also love that it syncs the reading to be analyzed on my Galaxy S5. Most of my cons are with the connection issues and crap battery life for something sooooo simple with no display. Makes no sense why does it even need a battery. Pro's: * Small and portable - Easy to carry with strips, lance, and meter but I hate the cheap stupid blue baggie. * It has accurate results when compared to my other meters * Website is great for compiling the collected data over time. I use two meters one at work and home to upload. * Test strips are cheaper than my deductible on other test strips, especially with Amazon auto-ship * It interfaces with Samsung's S-Health and other apps like My Fitnesspal. * From the i Health website I can run reports and export to take or send to my Endo Cons: * It is unreliable when plugging into the phone. Sometimes it just is not recognized, and sometimes it complains the device is in "suspend mode sometimes it connects as headphones. Its also a pain when in power save mode. I've wasted a few strips with this issue. I hope they fix this soon. * Crappy batteries and battery life - Buy good Energizers or Duracells you'll get more life out of the BG1 but it still sucks that you even need batteries for something that can be powered from the smartphone jack or mini usb port. - Need Advanced settings to connect more than one reader to the app and also associate a bottle of test strips to a specific reader. Like I mentioned before I have one meter at home, and another at the office. Better yet stop forcing the need to scan a bottle whenever the apps believes I've run out. Its not accurate anyway. I'd still recommend the BG1 for those that use their smartphone all the time and wanted something portable to tie your testing with other apps and health websites.

Incredible technology, Incredible Ease/Quickness & Money Saving Test Strip Cost Make This Number 1
Awesome device and super super cost effective. I use this on my Android device (Galaxy Note3) and have been nothing but amazed and impressed with number one it's cost and second it's performance. Works as promised. I was leary from reading all the negative reviews (I read all of them!) but discerned a common thread in them which made me comfortable going ahead and purchasing this anyway. The first thing to do is MAKE SURE you have a compatible Android device. This won't work properly on all Android systems. I have Lollipop OS version. The second reason people have problems is if they have "Power Saving" mode or a power saving app running. I did have the same issues some described when not turning OFF Power Saving before attaching the reader. The third and maybe the biggest reason people had issues is that demographically they may be older and just not "tech friendly" (if you get my drift)! After using this a couple days and figuring it out, I can now get my little carry case that comes with it that has the reader, my strips and lances plug it in, poke and read in just 2 minutes. The BIGGEST BENEFIT is the simply RIDICULOUS price of their test strips! No longer having to pay $50 is just AMAZING.

A good purchase-get batteries
Burned through the included battery in 3 days (CR1620 battery), so make sure you order extras when you order the unit. Works fairly well with my iphone 6. You have to work quickly or it shuts off and has to be removed and reinserted. Very nice convenient size, has an included rubber cover to protect. Would be nice if it came with a small case to carry with a few test strips and lancets. I have had trouble with the test strips wicking correctly. You must use ihealth testing strips which recently have been going out of stock on Amazon, but are the same price on their website (plus shipping?) Very easy import of readings and connects with the health app on the iphone in ios8

Great concept, needs accuracy improvement
I had high hopes for this blood glucometer. It’s a pain to manually enter data into Apple’s Health data app—weight, blood pressure, heart rate, blood glucose level, it can all get to be too much of a bother. The iHealth meter promised to automate part of the process, and very inexpensively. Unfortunately, the results are more like a scatter graph than a measure of blood glucose. Tests taken repeatedly can vary by +/- 20 points. I read in one of these Amazon reviews that changing out the battery with a name brand could make an improvement, but it didn’t. With this much variability, there’s just no point in using the meter. Meter pros: - Small and light for easy travel packing - Nifty rubber cases to keep the audio jack clean - Interfaces to the Health app on the iPhone - Inexpensive testing supplies Meter cons: - Not accurate, not repeatable - Showed “low battery” error on the second day of use - Can go into a battery saving mode that re-inserting into the phone won’t fix. You have to remove and re-install the battery. Removing the battery requires a small screwdriver or needle. - The battery access cover is not labeled; it’s easy to think you should take off the top panel when you’re supposed to take off the bottom - The iHealth imprint on the case is an almost white against white, making it hard to figure out what’s up and down just by glancing at it - Sometimes the strips take the blood, sometimes they don’t. It’s more finicky than another meter I have. - FDA approval is not mentioned anywhere on the outside of the box - The box says made in China while the meter says made in Taiwan, a quality issue. Lancet pros: - Easy to use rotational cocking mechanism - Manual counter ring to record how many times a needle has been used Lancet cons: - Needle is not tightly held inside mechanism. A few times, the needle was exposed outside the casing after it slipped during use. Because of this, the puncture depth varied from just right to “Wow, how much blood can that little thing draw?” - No way to adjust the depth of the needle puncture This system has a lot of promise that needs to be made good by fixing the accuracy

Objective Review...
After reading the negative reviews I was very skeptical as to whether this novel device would live up to the claims. It is with with great pleasure that after 30 days of use I can emperically state that it does! I decided that I would do a direct comparison to my LifeScan device testing before and after each meal and before bedtime over a 30 day span. The side-by-side data collected shows readings agree well within a ±-15% window of each other. As a result, my confidence in the accuracy of this device is very high. As far as the battery life of this device goes, I have not experienced any of the shortness of battery life experienced by other users who have reviewed this device. After 30 days of use, I have not experienced any "low battery" messages and the device continues to function as expected. As far as any waste test strips, I have yet to experience any waste. Every measurement made has been successful and there has been zero waste of test strips. Overall I am very pleased with this device and will continue to evaluate side-by-side for the next 30 days. I have enabled monthly Amazon Prime shipments of test strips, so there is a small decrease in the price per test strip. At this point my confidence is very high with this device.
