A Handsome Waistcoat but Proceed With Caution
I am a sewing novice but with some thought and experimentation, I have successfully made this handsome waistcoat. The finished product is worth the struggle and for those willing to craft this garment, there is one warning I have to alert you to. The Pattern Piece for the Collar is Not Right! On my pattern, the collar was two inches too short. You must redraw the collar pattern so that it can attach close to the lapels (as seen in the drawing above). Another reviewer mentioned that the collar was the wrong shape, which it is indeed! So while you correct the length of the collar, you might consider making it wider. I have sent an e-mail to Rocking Horse (pattern originators) telling them of this mistake. They may or may not correct it in future editions.

Who wrote the instructions?
I'll admit that I am not an expert seamstress but, I'm not a novice either. I am able to follow a pattern and have made several articles and have been know to make a simple evening dress however, the directions that came with this pattern are ridiculous. I had to look for an internet tutorial!Rocking Horse Farm patterns are notorious for having difficult to follow patterns and had I know that this pattern was from Rocking Horse Farm I wouldn't have bought it. The pattern does come on paper which is nice. The collar on the photo and the collar on the pattern do not match. The one is the illustration is square and the one you get is rounded. An easy fix but still.

Very disappointing
This pattern does not show any authentic finishing details. Also the collar in the picture does not match the collar in the pattern. The former shows the proper straight collar and the pattern actually contains a collar more like a rounded mandarin collar. I wish I had purchased the Kannik Korner waistcoat pattern since I was very pleased with their shirt pattern.

Perfect!
Made one for my brother for a party, got it done in two days! The whole pocket thing was a bit confusing, though, as there aren't really pockets, just little flaps you sew on. All in all, a great pattern. Printed on paper, too, not that horrid tissue stuff, for me a huge bonus!
