In many of the colors these berets say for instance 1- Black (then a different selection) Black 1 what are the differences in those choices ?

It's easier to see the 3 different "styles" by selecting a different color. Black has a plain surface, black1 and black2 have patterns visible on the surface (black1 has a twisted cord look, black2 has 2 raised parallel lines).

Can I put it to washing machine?

No, I wouldn’t machine wash these beret knowing the fact that when I was brushing my hair with a comb and accidentally touched the hats thread. A few strand pulled out. It’s got to be gently hand washed.

Have a head circumference of 23 inches. Will it work for me?

Easily. My head is 21 1/2" and there is plenty of stretch.

Is this cashmere-acrylic fabrication less itchy and scratchy than their cheaper all-wool one?

It was comfortable to wear for me and not itchy or scratchy at all. It’s also more of a knit fabrication and not as soft as cashmere.
