## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have the anker 40w 5-port high speed desktop and is there any different between them beside an extra port?**
A: There is a difference, but it is subtle and may, for some people, be a distinction without a difference. Physically, it is larger (both length and height) than the 5-port, and it has a nice light at the top so you know that it's plugged in and providing power (the 5-port doesn't have this). That's about the sum total physical and visual differences between the two versions. The deeper issue is not the extra port so much as the additional wattage, though the extra port is useful too. Let me provide you with some details that might explain the difference better. A typical iPhone charger -- the official Apple one that comes in the box with the iPhone -- can supply 5 volts, 1.0 amps, and 5 watts via the Lightning cable. This is enough to charge most iPhones relatively quickly. Alternatively, you can plug that same Lightning cable into any USB port on your laptop or desktop computer (instead of the charger) and charge the same phone that way. The issue is that your standard USB port only provides 5 volts, 0.5 amps, and 2.5 watts. While that is still enough to charge an iPhone, it will charge much slower this way than it would on the standard plug-in charger it came with. You may have heard reference to charging at full speed or quick charging or turbo charging -- this is what those terms are describing: being able to provide the device being charged with it's maximum power requirements in order for that device to charge faster. A device can accept less power and still charge, but it will do so at a much slower rate and therefore take longer.Next piece of the puzzle: an iPad charger -- the official Apple one that comes in the box with the iPad -- puts out 5.1 volts, 2.1 amps, and 12 watts over the lightning cable. Much higher than the iPhone charger. This higher-power charger allows you to charge the iPad at its maximum rate. All that said, you could put the iPad on the iPhone charger, but it will charge a lot slower -- just like putting the iPhone on your laptop or desktop USB port. The main takeaway here is that each device you would put on a charger needs a minimum amount of power (volts, amps, watts) to charge at all, and a (slightly to somewhat) higher amount to charge at it's fastest rate. Now apply that to the multi-port charger: Your total wattage for the 5-port is 40 watts which should be enough to allow you to charge three iPads simultaneously at their fastest rate (12 watts each x 3 = 36 watts) or two iPads and three iPhones (12w x 2 = 24w, + 5w x 3 = 15w, 24w + 15w = 39w), or you could mix it up even more: 1 iPad, 1 iPhone, 1 wireless bluetooth headset, one fitbit, etc. As long as you keep your five devices at or below 40w total draw, they will all charge at their fastest rate. If you go over 40w, that only means one or more devices will not charge at their fastest rate.So now you have the 6-port 60W charger. Now you should be able to understand the value of the sixth port and the 20 extra watts so you can come to your own conclusion as to whether the difference is valuable to you personally. Again, it's larger than the 5-port, but it can also handle more devices and charge more of them simultaneously at their maximum charge rates. To me, that was valuable enough to buy this and start cycling down my 5-port chargers to other family members. I am using mine to charge my iPad, iPhone, Fitbit Surge, Apple Watch, Plantronics Voyager Legend, and PowerBeats Wireless 2, and all of them charge at full speed and I only need one wall outlet and a single charger to do it all. Much more convenient for me.

**Q: Its 220v?**
A: Took it to Thailand November last year. Put a cheap (10 baht, 35 cent US) power plug adapter on it. It worked fine on 220v, just as the specifications stated. I charged cameras, battery packs, phones and tablets simultaneously. I am still using it in the USA.

**Q: What happens when a device reaches full charge?**
A: It depends on the device. Some devices will continue to draw operating current from the charger, others will let the battery discharge. It's governed by the device drawing power, this merely makes that power available. Some people unplug their phones to save electricity, but that ultimately adds up to a few pennies a year, if that. It's perfectly safe to leave devices plugged in forever, I use one of these to power a bank of Raspberry Pis for days on end.

**Q: What is the output for each of the ports? Are they 1 amp, 2.1 amps...what?**
A: All ports are capable of 2.4A, however, the charger has a max of 12A. The charger will determine each devices charging ability which may be less than 2.4A. This charger will charge any device from any port, where other chargers have specific ports for set charging rates. At the end of the day this charger averages 2A per USB port, so it can handle 5 high power devices & the 6th would charge at 1A.
