The first answer directs to a polyester twine, which wouldn't be a great replacement. Q: Is the post supposed to be fixed to the base? If so, is there hardware or is it glued? Mine won't stay in the holder.

My post (twine spindle holder) arrived completly attached (glued) in place to the base.get a nice sized needle that has a curve on the end for sewing up your goodies...I use mine all the time !
