An attractive & good stand alone office tool for "general" office tasks
Overall: An attractive and good stand alone office tool, but with a few "basic" essencial functionailties that should be addressed for it's price range.PROS: Quick and easy wireless setup for printing and network scanning (That is, scanning directly from an image software over wifi). The button interface is intuitive, the trays holds plenty paper in both inputs and outputs. Fast pace printing and quality is wonderful for vector image processing and word documents with duplexing. Easy to scan directly to local shared network folders in PDF format. Faxes can be recieved direct to memory if there is no paper. Scanning/copying at 600DPI is somewhat fast. Great web interface tool to manage and administer the printer, the address book, if needed recieve notifications and alerts via email, and the unit keeps count of its activities. Warm up time and first print seems a little faster than expected when in a hurry.CONS: For an office/business tool, it's very dissapointing that scanning to Email or FTP is almost useless, as SMTP and SSH is not supported, with little user case support to configure it (What's the deal here Ricoh?). This is an essential feature if away from the office and need someone to provide copies of paper documents on demand. No duplex scanning (this is really a "nice to have" for companies that require it as a key tool, such as law firms). Optimal scan resolution is at 600 DPI, which is good enough for general office tasks, but the available higher scanning resolution options are not justified, as it scales up the pixels poorly and time consuming for what it's worth).NOTES:- Printing pixel images are printed in half tone and not greyscale.- Direct "colour" scanning to shared folder, email or FTP is not supported BUT may be dependant on the firmware.- Direct scanning to image file such as JPG is supported but not available? possibly due to firmware version.Yet to try or have not succeeded in the following:- The answering machine function (no documentation).- OCR scanning only seems to just scan as an image instead of recognising text.- 3D object scanning (not sure if this feature actually has any real life purpose).STARS: I have taken off 1 & half stars mainly for the lack of Email and FTP network options. Half a star for no duplex scanning and "thin" paper print outs are warped.

It will make a nice boat anchor I suppose
I've been trying for 2 days to get this printer set up. The wireless will not communicate properly. i have had two network experts helping, and I'm an electrical engineer myself. Finally gave up, connected an ethernet cable, and installed the drivers for the umpteenth time. It prints now, but some of the the printer properties tabs are in a foreign language. I've un-installed and re-installed, tried the CD and tried windows installer, but come up with the same gibberish. I haven't gotten "scan to email" going either, it just keeps saying "server failure". It will make a nice boat anchor I suppose. I was so looking forward to having this in my home office, and it's been a huge waste of time and money.

Black and White ONLY!!! added a few more nuisances
Added May 16, 2014: Glad to see they changed the description from color to monochrome. I will note that I stopped using this as it is lousy. Hard to find toner. Apparently, nobody likes this for a variety of reasons. So I now see the full value of a USB port and a memory card slot (which this has neither. I have downgraded it to 2 stars, as my Epson Workforce 7510 is hands down a better machine in every way except text printing. I leave the original review below. I just do not see the value here, and my level of frustration has increased since setting it up. I wonder if color would have made a difference?? Probably not.Zero stars for the description, but this is clearly an error and should be noted. I can only hope that Amazon changes its description. With that said, it is a decent all-in-one office printer. Keep in mind that the stats for this say that it comes with an ink cartridge that is rated for 1000 pages and a standard cartridge is rated at 3500 pages. Images are sharp and crisp (but not like my Epson Workforce). Paper size is up to 8.5x14 inches. Printing is fast, and start up takes about 30 seconds when you first turn it on. This is one heavy printer (38.6 pounds) folks, so make sure you have a good sturdy place for it. It also has a medium to largish foot print, not as large as the old Brother we had in my office, but larger than my Epson Workforce that I have at home.....It is about the size of an older HP laserjet (but does so much more). It holds 250 sheets in the main tray, which is plenty for us. Power consumption is 800w, HOWEVER, this is an energy star printed and the stats say that it is energy star rated at 4.7w! That is great and will not be sucking energy all the time. It wakes up quickly enough, and you can set the time for how long before it sleeps. As for color, this does scan color, but it does NOT print color. Only black and white. Photographs do not print well on photo paper and if you just place one piece of photo paper over the regular paper it will pull up a sheet of plain paper with it and ruin the print, picking it up slightly after. If a printer can give me great B&W prints these days, it should be used as an anchor....if it wasn't for the other qualities, I would say, "printer overboard!" It does scan well and relatively quickly. Again, I am comparing it to our old Brother. Faxes are sharp and much nicer and crisper than our old one, and the ability to do different things at the same time is really great. I do wish the ink cartridge would yield more, but you cannot argue with the text printing quality.Set up from the CD was very fast, and requires no real technical ability at all.The only downside is that it is a little pricey and while it is a laser printer, the print quality, being very good, is not much better than my Epson Workforce, and that is full color, and prints awesome color up to 13x19! It also does not have a USB port. Still, for the office, I am satisfied with this printer....though I wish it was in color. Amazon, please change the description. If you are using this strictly for office needs and no images, great, but if not, look at the Epson Workforce.

Nice Printer with Relatively Easy Set-Up
I've been using this Ricoh Aficio printer as my go-to printer (but no longer do for reasons described below) for the last week and remain impressed with the print and copy quality the machine offers. To this point, I have not tried it to print color photos or to send/receive faxes, but those are things I seldom do and are of secondary importance to me.The printer comes very well packaged - and, in fact, several minutes are required just to remove all the tape and soft plastic inserts that ensure that the printer arrives on your doorstep in good condition. (It's well worth the effort.)As seems to always be the case these days, Ricoh provides very minimal written instruction for set-up of the printer but includes a CD with a complete users manual and all the drivers necessary to get a new user started (it's a good idea to hit the web to ensure that you end up with the latest drivers, however.)The only real slow-down I ran into was getting my WiFi connection set up between my home network and the new printer since I run a network of both mac and windows-based machines. I was unable to hook WiFi via the mac as I have not located the proper driver to allow that, and I've turned to using the printer only when printing from my laptops since they are windows based. Unfortunately, this has defeated the intention of using this printer as my go-to printer because both computers are regularly in use and there is not much point in having two printers set up in such a small area. We have returned to a printer that has the appropriate drivers for both operating systems now but continue to look for a mac driver that will work in this case.Once the set-up was completed, things are very intuitive. The own-screen menu of the printer itself is very complete and can be used without a lot of reference to the CD manual and the paper trays and ink supply trays are easily found and easily figured out. This is by far the highest quality printer I have used at home and, in the way its controls work and are displayed, it reminds me a good deal of the much more expensive equipment used in the office. My only concern (and I have not yet priced it out) is what a replacement ink supply is going to cost and how many copies I can expect to get from a single copy. The laser printing quality, however, makes this somewhat of a lesser concern than I had before using the printer.Bottom Line: Nice printer with a relatively easy set-up that will hopefully continue to provide high quality copies for a long time to come for windows based devices.
