Buy Leadership in Turbulent Times: Lessons from the Presidents 1 by Goodwin, Doris Kearns (ISBN: 9780241300725) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Unreadable on Kindle but brilliant - This was unreadable on Kindle because instead of putting note numbering every quotation was underlined so there were pages full of lines that made it unreadable. Bought the paperback instead. Once I could read it I found it superb, scholarly and insightful. She used these four Presidents to show the good and bad of leadership in such an important and powerful role and how careful people have to be in that role not to turn democracy into something else. As a Brit I found it very informative and enlightening, as I did her excellent Team of Rivals. Review: Just a wonderful book - Five stars. The four presidents are presented as people: complicated, conflicted, resolute but their humanity and personalities are brought to life. A wonderful book.

A great read when do so in the right way
This is an excellent read for those who are and aren't well versed in the delicate intricacies of these four great Presidents. However, one tip I would say is I found this book to be much more digestible when read one President after the other, rather than going by chapter by chapter across the four Presidents. For some readers it might sacrifice the comparisons being made by DKG, but for others it will provide a better experience allowing them to focus their attention one magnificent man at a time.

Must read for leaders in times of uncertainty
A compelling exploration of leadership through the lens of four U.S. presidents: Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson. Good historical narratives coupled with insightful analysis, presenting timeless lessons applicable to contemporary challenges. Interesting to read how, through their distinctive approaches and character traits, they shaped their responses and legacies. A must-read for anyone seeking to understand effective leadership in times of uncertainty. Whether you're a history enthusiast or a student of leadership, this book exceeds expectations in its depth and relevance.

Simply amazing
This book is rich in information about how 4 US presidents became leaders, their qualities (shared and distinct), how each has dealt with their own life issues (how they practiced resilience) and how they lead the country forward. The book is written in easy to read sentences and detailed descriptions of how each president has lead. There are 713 pages that are what the book is about. The remaining pages cover notes and references to other books which were used to source the information. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who is passionate about history and leadership.

Thought provoking comparison of leadership
Loved the approach taken in comparing both the differences and likenesses of these leaders. I think the perspective is a bit American though. I am not sure Churchill would have considered Roosevelt a great negotiator with Stalin! Nevertheless a great read on leadership.

Best on Leadership!
I have not read the other books of Doris Goodwin like "Team of Rivals" and other individual biographies of US Presidents. This book I found amazing with few great lessons. Most of the readers suggest it is the cocktail of her previous work but anyone who is not interested to go through each biography separately then this is the book! Her writing is lucid simple and full of gems.

I’ve read several of Doris Kearns Goodwin‘s books and found them very informative on topics and leaders that go beyond the history books. This book uses four US presidents to represent four different leadership styles and yet how those styles serve them and their country. Very good reading.

Excellent book! Very insightful. Well researched. No wonder the author won the Pulitzer Prize! The stories are relevant to today so very much and definitely resonate with anyone interested in learning about leadership. I learned a great deal by reading this book. I bought the large print edition by mistake and would have preferred the normal sized print. This is a really big book because of the large print.
