She was always on time for work, humorous and always wore a gentle smile. On the few days, she did not were that smile, she felt compelled to tell you that she had Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and that it was acting up. At that point in my life, I was not very familiar with this Syndrome but never failed to mention to her that it was so important to find the source of her problem and treat that, rather than just treating its symptoms. The LOW-FODMAP 28-DAY PLAN, does just that! The great thing about this book is that the 28-Day Plan offers a way out of this suffering. As a compliment to the book, listed inside is a symptom tracker which I found to be a great tool to assist those that may be suffering. Many may think that, when all the foods that they have been enjoying can no longer be consumed. Rest easy! All of those restricted foods are integrated back into your diet over a span of time, one at a time. Although it a rather lengthy book, the amount of information is invaluable and can certainly be shared with those needing a dietary lifestyle change for the better. I highly suggest this book.

A Must-Have!
This book is the PERFECT introductory guide for anyone who has thought about or decided to try a low-FODMAP diet. I wish I had found it sooner actually, because changing your dietary habits so radically can leave you wondering what the heck you CAN eat. The 28-day plan is ideal for this purpose because it includes shopping lists and pantry staple items to always have on hand, and it allows you to plan out your entire week (snacks included), which is something you'll need to get used to doing in advance for the best chances of sticking to the low-FODMAP diet. I've been on the low-FODMAP diet for 2 months now and I cannot believe how much my condition has improved. I have Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and possibly IBS as well. Since I started the low-FODMAP diet and amino acid supplements, I have not vomited once. This is amazing for me. Do not wait a moment longer feeling miserable and hopeless. You don't need to live like that. Heal your body by feeding it the right foods that it knows how to digest. You will be shocked by the improvement in your energy level, mood and blood sugar stability, and the changes to your digestive tract. I didn't really even understand how bad my problems were until they went away. Now that they're gone, I'm sticking to this diet because I feel so good. I am doing way more cooking for myself than I ever did in the past, I'm losing weight at a healthy pace simply by eating such healthy food all the time, and above all I am HAPPY! The one thing I want to stress above all else, is that you need to stick with this diet for a full month to really start seeing the benefits of being on the low-FODMAP diet long term. It simply takes that long for your body to rid itself of all the old icky things you used to eat before. Good luck to you, you wouldn't be looking into a book like this unless you're desperate and ready for a big change. I hope you have as much success with the low-FODMAP diet as I have, because it truly changed my life for the better.

If you are looking for a cook book that will untangle the information around "gut stuff" and diet, this is the book! FODMAP or fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccardides and polyols, is found in many foods. These FODMAPs inhibit proper digestion and impede health. This book is an easy to read and follow in both the break down of information and in the 4 week diet plan. What I personally like about this book is that it offers a very detailed shopping list for each week of the diet. The list enables the person to stock the pantry, refridgerator and freezer all at once so there is no temptation to wander from the plan. The recipes are easy to follow and delicious! Potato and Kale Frittata, smoothie recipes and my favorite are the Mexican dishes. What I like most about this book is that it employs every day, easy to find ingredients. The exception being lactose free milk, which my grocer carries in the dairy department. I recommend anyone with IBS or other digestion issues get this book.

After reading the introduction to The Low FODMOD, im very thankful I dont have any digestive problems! Having IBS seems awful and the diet outlined in the book is very restrictive. However, for someone plagued by constantly pain and inconvenience due to food intolerance, this book can be very helpful. It tells you exactly what is ok, what is not, and what you can have in moderation. It also gives you tips on starting the diet, shopping lists for the grocery store, and of course, recipes for every time of the day.

Excellently presented food plan for those with digestive issues
This book comprehensively introduces a diet that is proposed to be healthy and well-tolerated by people who have irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease or gluten intolerance, and other digestive issues related to ingesting the wrong types of foods. It is well-researched, cites its research sources both within the body of the book and at the end. "Fodmaps" are identified as "poorly digested sugars and fibers" and, having a gluten intolerance myself, I was surprised to find many of these foods on my current diet. The most helpful tool in the book is the "Symptom Tracker", with which you keep tabs on your symptoms as you move through a 4-week meal plan. You can then re-introduce some foods and determine whether you can tolerate them or not. There is an extensive list of what you will need to stock in your pantry, as well as what tools you will need to prepare the food. The book contains a multitude of delicious recipes, but the ones most accessible to people who don't wish to participate in this diet are in the "fish and seafood dinners" section, where there are more familiar (typical American) dishes with minor changes in ingredients. My only reservation about the book is that, with many books that explain and introduce specialized diets, the question remains how to get other people in your household on board with the changes since it is quite different from typical American fare. Otherwise - you'll be preparing multiple meals - for yourself and everyone else. Food and eating is a highly emotionally-charged subject, and could have been given more attention as to how to wean other household members off of their steak and mashed potato dinners.

The Absolute Best Recipes!
A low FODMAP diet was recommended by my doctor for control of GI issues & celiac problems. Having purchased other cookbooks but not happy with the complex recipes, I found this book. I have made over a dozen of the recipes in this cookbook, and every single one has turned out so well that they've become staples in my family's meal plans. From the Crab Rangoon to the baked tortilla chips, breakfast lunch or dinner, every single recipe has tasted great. The ingredients are easy to find in any of our local stores, and the recipes have easy to follow instructions. Most recipes are quick to make, which helps tremendously on busy work nights. The best part is after eating these recipes and following the meal plans, I feel terrific. No more GI issues, and having celiac disease with a lot of GI issues, I feel completely well after eating a low FODMAP diet. This cookbook is a must have for any low FODMAP follower, or even if you just want to eat healthy. Plus my family loves the recipes too. Great find, highly recommended, easy to make recipes.

I say thumbs up and well done!
What a gift. I realize this is a simple statement but really, Rockridge Press has given us a tool worth working with. For 13 years I worked exclusively as an assistant to the over 80 crowd. So many good people suffering, really suffering in their own homes. It is true what they say about IBS and other similar ailments. Embarrassing, painful, unpredictable. Little or no quality of life for individuals mustering courage just to make it through their days. I find many echoes of my advice in this book but what really impresses me is the quality of organized instruction. Yes, the recipes are wonderful and I love the kindness in the delivery. What is remarkable to me is that this writer is giving insight into an arena seldom talked about. People who manage lives with these complications are usually too embarrassed to even speak about what they are suffering. Then there are the people I have known who are not elders but just born with complications and believe it is simply normal life. When my son was in elementary school his two best friends both suffered similar issues. Impossible to even go on sleep overs without calls home half way through the night. My knowledge gave the families someone they could trust to offer safe treats and fixes so the boys could sleep through the night in the same room. If I had found this book then, I just wonder what good I could have done for both families. I say thumbs up and wish you the best in your effort to manage what was once unmanageable.

I wish I could give this book 6 stars!
Excellent book for an intro into IBS. The day I was diagnosed I hopped on Amazon and ordered this book. Although I am not one to follow meal plans (too rigid for me) there are a lot of great recipes here and the info is top notch. I wish I could give this book 6 stars!

Help yourself to help your gut (and still enjoy your food!)
This is a good, clear book with lots of sensible and tasty recipes. There are easy-to-use lists of foods to be enjoyed or avoided and straight forward explanations of the science behind FODMAP. I just used the book for the information and recipes, but you can follow the 28 day plan outlined in the book if you want a more structured approach. Fodmap has helped a lot and, out of the 2 books I bought to help make meals I could enjoy, this was definitely the best.

easy to use recipes
easy to use recipes, but they need more information on serving sizes and some of the calculations for caloric count and fats seem to be way off for the ingredients listed. Recipes are tasty and have helped with my chronic stomach issues
