Perfect tool for the job
Perfect tool for easily unfreezing the water dispenser tube. Itโs reasonably priced, worked perfect, and alleviated the hassle of taking apart fridge components. Without this, I would have had to unscrew a plate cover, disconnect electronics, unscrew an additional internal cover, disconnect another wire, manually pull the entire water line out of the refrigerator door, thaw the tube, reinsert the tube by threading it back up through the door and reconnecting everything in reverse. Doing this isnโt complicated, but it is time consuming. Plus you run the risk of cracking plastic parts and/or damaging the hose as you yank it out and thread it back up through the door. When someone designs a product like this that fixes a common problem like this in two minutes, they deserve acknowledgment!

WORTH IT, and so easy to use
Bought a house that had a fridge with a water and ice dispenser. The ice maker worked great, but we couldn't get any water. Changing the filter didn't work, and even though I have a home warranty I wanted to exhaust all options before forking over $149 for a service call. I almost-boiled water in a kettle, poured half a large coffee mug, put in the hose, and drew up the hot water. It didn't get far up the dispenser hose before it stopped, and that's when I depressed the plunger. It took about a dozen full syringes to get everything cleared, but now I have a working water dispenser! The further up the tube went, the more water dripped down, so I kept a smaller cup under the dispenser and would stick some of the water buddy hose into the cup so it would leak into that. Definitely worth the price!

Works like a charm!
I originally ordered a different one but it was too thick to fit the opening of the water line in my fridge. I then ordered this one and it worked like a charm!!! I would absolutely recommend to everyone!!

Worked great, but took more uses than in directions.
Worked great. Saved a call to a repair person. I wish I would have had this months ago. I've had ice but no water. Would have given 5 stars if the directions had more details. It took 6-7 syringes full of hot water to clear the frozen water line. Also, I put a towel on the shallow spill ledge to catch water coming back out from the water dispenser with each syringe.

finally, a cheap and effective solution for frozen refrigerator water dispensers
Anyone looking at this item already knows how mercilessly frustrating these frozen water lines can be. And, like me, you've likely tried other misguided and ineffective approaches to get your water dispensing again. There's a few things I won't consider, however, and that's calling a plumber, replacing the entire door, or buying a water line heater. Really GE?! Your "fix" is to use even more electricity to heat up a component that was cooled too much in the first place, so that it's functional again? So with diligence, I set about exhaustively scouring the internet for other people's ideas and solutions. However, I ultimately found none that were worthwhile or effective long term. I tried insulating the door with a thick piece of foam. Looks terrible and didn't work. I tried using a heat gun, with a makeshift funnel made from a cut open beer can to better direct hot air to the nozzle, only to have it promptly melt the nozzle. I should have known a heat gun is far hotter than a blow dryer, but I don't own hair drying equipment. The only thing that worked (before discovering this brilliant solution) was opening the freezer door and waiting for 25 to 45 minutes. Yes, it's the easiest approach if you have time and patience, but you eventually end up with frost covered food as it partially thaws and refreezes. After successfully thawing the line by leaving the freezer open, I tried pushing a long zip tie way up in the dispenser and leaving it there, so I could hypothetically pull it out, thus freeing the ice block that would inevitably form around it. Nope. It worked sometimes but always sprayed water around the zip tie while dispensing water and mostly just froze it in place. My frustration led me to try replicating this most basic of tools (and temporarily forget rudimentary physics) by attaching the tube from a hydration pack to a funnel full of boiling water and attempting to direct the hot water to the dispenser nozzle. Again, nope. Scalding hot water everywhere and not remotely effective. It simply doesn't get the hot water to the ice blockage. Just a positively awful idea from the start. Finally, I found a cheap and simple solution with the Water Line Buddy. Hot water from the tap is fine, no need for boiling or a microwave. The line is very small, which is critical, as you insert it as far up the refrigerator's line as possible. When it stops at the ice blockage, you simply depress the syringe plunger and hot water melts the ice immediately on contact. It helps if you continue to push the tubing further up as the ice melts. I've never needed more than one application and usually not even a full syringe, so it's super efficient and hardly any mess. I just put a dish towel in the tray and it barely gets wet, but you soon realize how water conducts heat far better than air. This simple device works so well, it feels like magic compared to other so-called solutions. It really is the perfect tool for this unique problem. I mean, you can drive a nail by beating on it with a pair of pliers, but a hammer is always better. This is the solution you've been searching for. Yes, it seems expensive for what it is, as it's just a big syringe with some tubing, but this very small tubing is key, and not easily sourced. On a GE fridge in particular, you'll need the tiniest of tubing to fit inside the dispenser line. I checked local hardware stores and none had anything this small. My time is worth way more than this costs. Speaking of which, the whole operation takes less than two minutes. Yeah, it's still frustrating that it freezes, but I now have a tool that so quickly and effectively solves the problem that I smile every time I have to pull it out.
