A two-step process. First you punch the decorative portion of you tabs and then you apply this to the tab stickers provided. It is a lot of work for creating tabs. It is vital to note that the punch DOES NOT extend to the shape of the entire tab. It only provides the shape for the "top" of the tab that is seen beyond the edge to which it is applied. You are NOT buying the tab shape as a punch--you are only getting the "top half" of the assembly. If that is what you want, it is a great product. Other wise, you are really only getting half of the entire tab shape in the punch. The quality of the product is good and it is constructed well. However, to continue to use it you will need to purchase more of the tab stickers which are sold separately (a few are included with the punch).

I got this to make file tabs for my 6"x6" paper pads -- I make hand crafted greeting cards, and use a lot of different designer paper, so I have a LOT of paper pads.I turn the paper pads upside down so that the "binding" is on the bottom, then punch a tab from one of the papers, and attach it to the cover using the enclosed tab stickers. (see photo in customer photos ... )NOTE: you get only a few of these stickers with the punch; if you have a large labeling project, you'll need to purchase more of the stickers, but they're worth it.I've already labeled most of my collection of papers, and will be creating index tabs for my 12"x12" papers soon. Very happy with this system!

I got this because a certain company's tab punch is retired and selling on ebay for over $90!!! when I got it it looked odd compared to the tab in the pic....it only punched the top of the tab and you have to buy these stickers THE SHAPE OF THE FULL TAB!!! to add to it!! so its an extra cost!!! and a pain!! they need to make that clear!!! not happy!!!

Tab is very big -- too big for a usual tab size! most index tabs are 1/2 this size -- can't tell from the packaging or the site

Great punch for Index Tabs! Can cut through thicker paper. CANNOT cut through laminate. A little on the heavier side, and not so easy to press down, but still great if you need to make tabs-- and cheaper than buying them from the store every school year!

easy to use, and a great addition to any crafter's supplies. It is great for crafts and office use! you'll use it daily.
