Beautiful photos, wish there were more
I drove all over Syria in 1993, and saw most of the places in the book, especially Allepo. I wish there were photos of Damascus and the Krak des Chevaliers, which was shelled. But, the loss of so many cultural and historical treasures will never equal the loss of a single child. And so many were lost.I highly recommend the book to anyone wants to know what was, and what still could have been

Excellent photos---more please!
The photos are excellent and invariably big, full page format. The disadvantage: there are not as many as one would have hoped. There is a lot more to Syria and if bigger and smaller photographs had been brought together, one could have covered more ground on a similar number of pages. Ditto for the text. Helpful and well written, but limited in scope. Still, the book sits very pretty on the shelf, and for those of us who travelled through Syria before the civil war, it is a powerful book.
