Can this stabilizer rest on the roof, or does it have to rest against the wall?

I think it could but would not be stable. Best against the wall. On the roof it would be at an angle and would probably slip. Because of my age, I used the wall and had a large C clamp to put on the 2 by 6 with a rope attache to me in case latter would slide or disconnect.

Will this fit an old Keller 24' aluminum with D rungs?

If it's a standard size ladder it should fit. The stand-off fits extension & single ladders with rail up to 4" x 1 3/4" and D-rung. Holds ladders 12" from walls & spans 48" to clear most windows and can be adjusted across the width.

Need to clean gutters and have vinyl. Appears, even though I have unit, I now find out it won't stand off against roof?

It is designed to use on a wall but I also have vinyl and have a small addition that is flat enough for a membrane roof. I can use the end (with no gutter) to place the ladder on the facia and since it is covered with aluminum does no damage. I would suggest getting gutter screens to avoid this task completely.

What is the stand off with it attached to the ladder?

I haven't measured but in my case it solved my problem. Basically -- I am painting my house and I was facing a particular problem. At the roof line, how can I take off the gutters while the ladder is sitting on them. The stand off made it possible to stand off from the roof itself. Anyway, the width is equal to a typical American window width and the stand off it about 6 inches at the top. Hope that was a little helpful ....

Ordered this and it never got to me.They sent out another one and It works great. Very strong and sturdy and makes using the Extention Ladder safer and helps with access to the wall of the house by pulling the ladder a little off the surface. Great for working on windows too.

Never climb a ladder without a stabilizer!

This unit is easy to install and makes such a difference with your ladder experience. #1 It saves the edges of your shingles from being destroyed. #2 It saves your gutters or trim from getting scratched up and damaged. #3 It stabilizes your climb. The ladder doesn't slide from right to left. #4 It helps prevent the ladder from sliding out beneath you since the weight is transferred to the roof. This is VERY important. Talk with someone who has had a ladder slide and you'll never want to use a ladder without a stabilizer again!

a handy thing to have for my ladders when working at or above the roofline.

I like that I can use this on various ladders and it spreads the weight of the ladder and the person on it when working on gutters and the like. Before getting this I put some dents on a couple of my gutters. It is easy to take off the ladder but clumsy to get on.

I have one of these on each of my ladders. Makes a big difference. Strong, lightweight, and keep it off the gutters. I might try new rubber feet in the future.

Excellent design and very sturdy. Simple to install on my extension ladder. Several inches of clearance provided from the gutters on my 12 :12 pitched metal roof. Doesn't mark the black metal roof because it has suitable rubber feet on the ends of the stabalizer bar. Don't need any assistance at all stabilizing the ladder with this device. No instability at all . Highly recommend. 10 out of 10.
