Wysong Uretic - Dry Natural Food for Cats, Chicken, 5 pounds

I have 11 cats - seven originally and four acquired last year when I got married. (All are fixed and stay indoors except a few that like to explore our electric netting-fenced in yard. The others have no interest in going outside, but do love a window seat.) Of my original seven, five of them are over 10 years old. (The other two are about six years old, so well into "middle age". And the other four cats that my husband brought are 3-4 years old.) One of my original seven had been having issues with blood in her urine for a few years. The first day I noticed it, we took her to the vet right away who said there were no stones, crystals, or infections, but that her bladder was inflamed from stress. She's an F3 Savannah and very high energy and territorial. So, we already had lots of cat shelves and scratchers. We added more litter boxes and started to keep her separate from the one cat she fought with the most. The blood in the urine never stopped... Fast forward a few years and I noticed that another one of my cats was also peeing blood (the one the first one fights with) and another was straining in the litter box (one who is super chill and doesn't fight with anyone.) I considered stress a possibility because we had moved and acquired four additional cats, so there were some squabbles despite giving them rescue remedy, calm collars, keeping them in separate parts of the house, loving on them extra, even more litter boxes, etc. I happened to see a "My Cat From H*ll" episode (or rather, a clip of an episode) despite having not seen the show in years. The episode was about a cat who fought with another cat in the home and also peed blood. The family's vet had originally told the owners it was an inflamed bladder and stress related. Jaxon Galaxy wasn't accepting that as an answer, so back to a different vet they went. Sure enough, it was bladder stones. The owners declined a multi-thousand dollar surgery (against the advice of Jaxon Galaxy) and went with adjusting her diet. I'm not sure how that turned out for them, but since several of my cats seemed to be having issues (and I didn't have thousands upon thousands of dollars lying around nor did I want to put them through a surgery if it was their food causing issues), it gave me the idea to switch their food. I was previously feeding them Instinct with Raw Boost. So, I wanted something of equal or better quality with a comparable cost. I had read about Wysong before and knew they had a good reputation for being a high quality food as far as dry foods are concerned. I figured I'd give it a try. All 11 cats have been on this food for about two months. They took to it immediately (though I did mix the food for a week or so, gradually.) The amount of spraying has decreased significantly (we're not 100% free of spraying, but it isn't a constant daily thing anymore). I have definitely seen much less blood in their urine. In fact, I can't recall the last time I saw bloody urine (it used to occur almost daily), and the cats no longer cry when using the litter box. I also noticed that the chronic bloating some of my cats were having is gone too. Bloating can be a symptom of bladder stones, so it is possible that these other cats who happened to not pee outside the litter box also had blood in their urine I hadn't noticed. Their urine also doesn't have such a strong smell as it did before. Overall, this seems to be doing my cats good so far. It's a great food for a home with cats of multiple ages. It seems to have brought my slightly under weight cats up to the appropriate weight and my overweight cats down to a healthier size. No one is bloated anymore, and bladder issues seem to be significantly improving. My cats also seem calmer (which makes sense if they were having bladder pain and aren't anymore.)

We bought the ureic cat food a few years ago and continue to buy it due to the ingredient list and it showing up as an alternative to the highly expensive prescription cat food of Royal C. To avoid diarrhea or any other reactions that were in the reviews, we introduced him to this new cat food slowly over a couple months with zero issues. It’s great knowing that he is off big pharma cat food that dried out his poo and caused his hair to fall out. We also noticed that he eats less than he did prior to switching him to Wysong ureic. He now has a lot more energy, poo is back to normal and his fur is nice and healthy. This has been a huge life changer for our cat. If you’re looking for a meat-forward, probiotic-enriched dry food with solid clinical endorsements this is it! You will not regret taking care of your best friend with this high quality product. Wysong ureic cat food looks like regular cat food and my cat loves the tasty small bite size piece. I would highly recommend this cat food to anyone with a cat on prescription cat food with similar issues.

After a scary weekend where my older male cat kept going to the litter box and peeing only a few drops ("blocked cat syndrome" which thankfully resolved on it's own), I bought this food and started feeding him wet as well once a day. He hasn't had another episode since I made these changes, but he eats all my other cat's dry food instead of this, even though hers is a cheaper brand. So if you only have 1 cat, this will probably be good since you can control their food, but if you have multiple cats it's hard to keep them eating this one. I even mixed both together but he can tell the difference. Lol So, not sure if the food is working or not. Hopefully they can add some kind of flavor to it so the cats will like it more because it might be working great, but I'll never know for sure. Lol

My 10 year old male cat recently started drinking an excessive amount of water. I’d pass the water bowl and it would be stone dry. He likes to play with the water, scooping it out of the bowl with his paw, so I wasn’t sure if that was why the bowl was going dry - until I started watching him more closely, and realized he was in fact, drinking too much. I took him to my vet who did blood work, a urinalysis, X-rays, and because she just bought an ultrasound machine and wanted to try it out, she did an US as well, and thankfully did not charge me for it! The only abnormal finding was lots of blood in his urine, for which she could find no underlying cause. She said blood can sometimes be stress related. She gave me samples of dry C/D, a food given for many years to cats with urinary issues. He didn’t like it. I mixed it with his Blue Buffalo dry food, but he knew it was in there and he let me know how unhappy he was. The same thing happened with Royal Cannin. “No way, Jose!” he meowed. So I came on Amazon to see what was out there and I saw this - made by Wysong. I knew Dr Wysong many years ago when I was extremely active in ferret rescue. He was one of the first to come out with a well-balanced ferret food, “Totally Ferret”. One of my ferrets was losing a significant amount of weight, but my vet at the time could find nothing wrong. Then I discovered Dr Wysong and Totally Ferret, switched foods, and my little Mickey started gaining weight. I’m forever grateful to Dr Wysong. I knew I couldn’t go wrong with this feline diet coming from Wysong. Today it arrived. I opened the bag, took a handful of Wysong Uretic, and put it under Riley’s sleeping nose. He immediately woke up, took a couple of sniffs and ate a piece. Then he ate another one. Then he stood up and chowed down the entire handful, and then looked for more. I gave him another handful and he wolfed that down. And I breathed a sigh of relief. So once again, here I am, forever grateful to Dr Wysong - thank you Dr Wysong! Oh - and if you compare Wysong Uretic to CD, you’ll discover Wysong has all natural wholesome ingredients, while CD can’t really say the same. And Wysong is not as expensive as CD, another big plus in today’s world of skyrocketing costs in taking care of our pets. I highly recommend this food if your cat has urinary issues and your vet wants him on a special diet. You won’t be disappointed.

I switched to the Wysong uretic, because one of my two cats had crystals and needed to be on a urinary support food. She had been previously prescribed a urinary food and then the vet told me to find one that I could get regularly without prescription that offered urinary support. She has been doing fine on this food. However, my other cat has had major digestive upset while on this food. He rarely ever threw up or had hairballs, and he has had them since switching to this food. He also has had loose messy stools since switching to this food. He’s a really good boy and keeps himself pristine for a long-haired cat and rarely had mats and I think because of his stomach upset. He stopped grooming himself as well and ended up with mats. I had really hoped that this food would work out because when I reviewed the ingredients, nothing looked terrible but something in here is bugging my boy and I have to switch.

My cat won’t eat much of this (Uretic) on his own, but will if mixed in with his other food. He is very finicky, so I’m not faulting the company for that. It has helped him to gain some needed weight, so I’m glad for that. He is a grazer, so he had no digestive issues with it. I like that it’s good for helping to prevent urinary crystals and is more affordable than some of the others out there. I love the fact that they have been in business for 40 years and only had one recall which was for the dry food being too high in moisture, but no cats were harmed. I was surprised to see how many recalls that my cat’s current brand has had and it’s not the most expensive but is most definitely not the cheapest. I trust this company, (Wysong) and I highly recommend it. I will buy it again.

If you're considering this product, my story probably sounds familiar. This is my first cat. I've had him since he was a few weeks old. I know cats can live a long time and didn't expect any health issues out of him for years to come. Well, a few weeks after his 5th birthday, he was hospitalized with urinary tract disease. He had bladder stones that were blocking his urethra. I brought him home after a day in the hospital and 12 hours later he was on his way back. He had to be repeatedly catheterized as it was so bad that his stones were even clogging the catheter. He was hospitalized for a week and it seem like I was going to be forced to choose between a risky surgery and euthanization. Luckily, my cat's condition approved. I was told that his condition would likely reoccur...it could be days, months, or years. Given what happened the first time around I was pessimistic but he finally came home with a new prescription diet...that he refused to eat. Days passed. I first tried mixing it with tuna juice, then actual tuna. My cat is not known for being picky but he would not touch the stuff. I started to worry that he would die of starvation...a couple times I thought he had. Additionally, he was barely urinating, straining to do so, and barely moving. I knew I needed an alternative to the prescribed cat food. I ordered Wysong Uretic only because it would get here the quickest...same day delivery when I ordered. It was only four stars and my hopes were low so I was beyond thrilled to see my cat, who hadn't eaten in days, chowing down on this stuff. It's been nearly a month, and I know this is a condition I'm going to have to deal with for the rest of his life but he's gaining weight, hasn't had any re-blockages, and is finally urinating normally. The food is expensive but I will keep buying it because it seems to be working. I hope it does for your cat as well!

Overall, this was a terrible experience. If I could give it negative stars, I would. Over the course of two years, I tried this product twice—two different variations. The only reasons I gave it another chance were that the formula looked decent on paper and it was on sale. The first time, it caused both of my cats to vomit violently every single time they ate it. They became exhausted, dehydrated, and their energy levels dropped significantly. As soon as I switched to a different brand, the vomiting stopped and they returned to normal. Several months later, I ended up trying the same brand again—a different variety (I was low on funds and it was on sale again). But the results were the same, if not worse: nonstop vomiting and two miserable, depleted cats. Nothing like this has ever happened with any other food. At this point, I think there’s more than enough evidence to say something is seriously wrong with this product. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who cares about their pets. Shame on this brand—I’m willing to bet they wouldn’t feed this to their own animals. It’s practically poisonous!
