172cm is the height to top platform. Overall height is approx. 250cm.

Q: can they be stored outside

I can't see why not. Mine are and really there is nothing on the steps to go rusty. I have had them lying on a garden storage box under some trees. So at the end of this winter I will check them and review the situation again.
