Book 3: Lamp Fuels (Non-Electric Lighting)

Absolutely a MUST-READ for anyone using non-electric lighting. One reviewer said the book is just “common sense”. LOL! Petroleum science isn’t common sense. What a silly thing to say. I doubt that reviewer actually read the book. If you use any kind of lamps or lanterns, you really need to read this book.I have a college degree in fire protection and worked for years in the petroleum industry as an engineering designer specializing in Fire and Gas protection. I still learned things from this book. A lot of what he said was familiar to me enough that I can testify that he’s correct in the information he shares.This information will help you shop for lamps and lanterns, help you understand what types of fuels you can burn in what type of lamp, and help you know how to go about finding inexpensive alternative fuels.Enough talk...just GET THIS BOOK!

I previously purchased the "2000 Hour Flashlight" book, then purchased this series of books on lamps, Book 1, 2, and 3. Books 1 & 2 were very informative and I enjoyed both of them. I then started book 3. First, it is technical, but in a good way! A little like ninth grade science, but any ninth grader could appreciate it and even as a 69 YOM, the information was very good! I discovered a lot more that I didn't know, than what I knew in the beginning. Spend the $.99 cents. I believe I will save more than the price in future fuel purchases.

Great source of gneral information. Well written and easy read. Welcome addition to the technical library.

Overall, I think it's a great book. I still had a few questions after I was done reading it, which is why I only gave it 4 stars, but it's a great reference for anyone who wants to use oil lamps. And for the price, you really can't beat another reference.

I managed to get the entire series. Very interesting. I found a lot of info that I did not know.

Very informative and a good read.

Very interesting read, perhaps especially for someone who might be an engineer who enjoys recalling or learning about the chemistry of these fuels to appreciate the why of their various uses. Practical for anyone, going beyond the WARNING, DO NOT USE IN... to the why you shouldn't think of trying. I really appreciated and enjoyed this write-up.... but I'm an engineer, too.... ;-)

I actually liked this book, learned things I didn't know about fuels. It is a book you should read if you use oil lamps and don't understand the different fuels.

The purpose of this 70-page, black & white photo manual is to educate and entertain. There is a wealth of information on a variety of fuels that you just don't find in print. It informs about the science of use as well as warning against bad advice. Jargon and nomenclature are clairified. A good addition to the carbon fuel-burning lamp library as well as the survivalist's repertoire.

Study of fuels is useful.
