Leviton 515CV-LIT Grounding Lighted Cord End Replacement

I added this Leviton Replacement End to my retractable Power Extrension Cord in place of the original 3-headed receptacle that could no longer provide consistent, full electrical power to two of the outlets. That old head also had a barely-visible orange Neon internal pilot light, while this new Leviton unit has a bright green LED inside, visible day or night to confirm that juice is present (and the Breaker hadn't been accidentally tripped). I was impressed by the build quality and ease of assembly, and how well it holds onto the power cord. Took me less than 10 minutes to replace the old head; there are 2rd-party plug-in 3-head extensions if you need.

It works the way it should

Quick delivery. Beefy plug that will likely outlast the extension cord. Love the LED light indicating power is reaching the plug and “Live”. Easy to install. Lutron gear professional grade quality.

Great easy DIY fix for my 100' cord that shorted and melted the old terminal in the rain. I found the assembly very easy, and making the wire tails sufficient length very easy. Honestly was fun to put together. Huge fan of lighted ends to be assured power is live at the plug.

This product is rated for both indoor and outdoor use. I used it to replace the outlet on a 12 gauge (wire) extension cord. I really like the integrated green LED which glows to indicate that voltage is present. Some reviewers found the outlet difficult to wire. I didn't, take your time and you will do fine. The only negative feature of this outlet is the clear plastic internal insulating covering that insulates and supports the outlet contacts. This plastic clear insulation cover ideally would be captive. It pulls off easily when wiring, making it so the outlet contacts can fall out. Positioning the outlet contacts back is easy, but it is important to note that the bare wires connecting to the green LED also may become disconnected. The LED wires are held in place by simple compression, sandwiched between the outlet contacts and the internal body of the outlet. Should the outlet contacts fall out, just make sure that the wires connecting to the LED are sandwiched between contacts and the internal contact guide insulating surface. You might notice that the LED flickers when illuminated. This is not a problem with the product, but merely because LEDs are designed to work best with DC power. The AC power common in many homes causes the LEDs to flicker slightly. Again not a problem but a result of AC power feeding the LED.

Is as described and stronger that what I found at big box store.

I haven't used it yet, but the quality looks good.

This replacement end was a bit tricky to get the screw out of it to open it. There was one that just spun around and wasn't attached to anything and it was stuck shut. But with a butter knife, it popped open and went on fine. The lighted end is hand at night as this is used as an outside cord.

I can now find the end of my extension cord in the dark!
