Great Action/Comedy Adventure
With Jackie Chan taking a smaller role in this with the main focus on Sammo Hung and the rest of the Lucky Stars troupe, check out the scene with the lovely Sibelle Hu and the other Five Lucky Stars when they first meet, Great Fun.

Strike It Lucky
When a detective is kidnapped by some fugitives (one of which is a renegade cop), aided by Japanese gangsters, Muscles ~ the detective's partner, is forced to go outside of the department and enlist the help of an old childhood friend and his group of idiot cronies.Obviously they accept (otherwise the film wouldn't be very long!), and they go undercover as bank robbers, on a top secret mission, in order to wheedle their way into the criminal underworld and thus locate the whereabouts of the real gangsters and the imprisoned cop. The idea being that from there of course, they are to alert Muscles, so that he can capture the baddies and rescue his partner. Unfortunately though, as I already mentioned, the heroes aren't the coolest or most heroic chaps, and so 'hilarious' chaos ensues...The first 'Lucky Stars' film (providing you don't count the earlier/similar Winners & Sinners), which was a huge success at the box office on it's release. As is usual for these, there is a lot of rather silly humour, which dependent if you like that sort of thing, will either make or break the film for you. And although the fight action mostly plays second fiddle to the humour, because this was a period where the crew were at the top of their game, it still means that what fight action there is, is pretty much unmissable to any fans of Hong Kong action cinema during this time.So as an example we get Lam Ching Ying, Dick Wei, Lau Kar Wing and Michiko Nishiwaki, facing off against Jackie Chan, Yeun Biao, Samo Hung and Sibelle Hu in the final fight, which as you can imagine is an absolute belter!! With Michiko Nishiwaki probably stealing it from under every bodies noses during her fight scenes..However it's also interesting to note that the underrated Yuen Biao also worked as Wei's stunt double for certain shots.Ultimately I have to say that if the Lucky Stars films only featured the crazy hijinks and, lets be honest here, fairly lame humour, and didn't have the great displays of what little kung fu we do get in them, I probably wouldn't own them, but at the end of the day, the martial arts moments that are in these, are undeniably really good.I enjoyed it anyway. The disc features a really good interview with the lovely Nishiwaki, another with director Samo Hung, and a commentary that I haven't listened too yet.3.75/5
