Review: Great little radio - I'm a radio guy, and always has been. This is my first HD radio. I live in a rural area, and don't receive that many stations that offer additional digital programming, but I've tried it in larger cities, and it's remarkable. It's a small radio but the sound is better than other radios of similar size. It's not the best for music, but dialogue comes in very clear. Some reviews mention that batteries don't last long in this radio but I haven't experienced that, maybe because of the shortage of digital programming in my area. I own several other radios, but if I want to listen to something in an area where another radio is not set up, this is the one I grab. It easily receives stations from a city 40-miles distant, and is easily portable and fits just about anywhere.
Review: Good small, portable radio - I read reviews for this radio. People complained about the sound. I think for a radio the size of your hand, it has pleasant, crisp sound. A radio this size will not sound like a concert hall, but for the size, I think this has good sound. Someone complained it doesn't do HD. Yes, it does, but you may have to read the instructions to find out how to locate the HD channels. My other Sangean radio has an HD button. This one, once you find a station with HD, you need to use the tuning (up/down) buttons to get to the additional stations. Pressing HD Seek again won't get you there. This is a good very small radio, in my opinion. I got a refurb for $50.00, so I'm happy with the price, as well, and think it's a fair value for the quality of the radio. It will be easy to take with me. Also seems to have an alarm, although I haven't tried using that. I'm quite happy with the small footprint and quality.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: When purchasing "renewed" does buyer get a certification of what the initial issue was fixed?**
A: No, a certificate is not provided, but we go through great lengths to ensure that all refurbished radios are in working order before they ship out by our factory trained technicians

**Q: Is there a ac adapter for hdr-14?**
A: If you buy the radio new in box there is a five volt AC adapter.
If you don't get an AC adapter with the radio, it will be a trial finding one as it is FIVE Volts with a micro barrel plug. An unusual adapter typical not falling in a generic adapter category.
I most often use the radio with 3 AA rechargeable batteries, with the batteries being recharged out of the radio in a separate charger.

**Q: Does this radio have the in between channels ?**
A: The radio has both 10 kHz and 9 kHz spacing on the AM/MW band. To me that means it receives the in between channels.

On the FM/VHF band it is capable of 100 kHz spacing. That too indicates the in between channels may be tuned.

**Q: I plugged it in and it just flashed "welcome to hd radio" and then kept turning off and on. i unplugged and plugged back in and now i get nothing.**
A: The batteries probably need to be charged overnight. Radio is shipped with almost dead batteries. I think you used up the little bit of residual "juice" left in the batteries.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Small Radio with a Big Sound!
*by L***R on October 27, 2020*

I've purchased several Sangean radios through the years. I find their radios to be excellent. This is another winner! It's small. It fits in your hand. It's about 30% larger than a deck of playing cards. It reminds me of the transistor radios we had as kids growing up in the 50's and 60's. They never sounded this good! It's got digital tuning, which is precise. It has 20 presets for FM and 20 presets for AM. And it's got a great telescoping antenna. For a little radio the sound is great. (Remember, you're not buying a boom-box with a 15" woofer!) Also, I purchased on Amazon the "factory refurbished" model and saved a few bucks. It's like brand new, and it's good to know the factory went over it. Bottom line, if you're looking for a radio this size, look no further. Hope that helps.
