Wow. I used a spreader to sow half of this on top of clay in the shaded part of our yard. Watered it in and it came up quickly. I strategically planted the other half yesterday to account for rain that would likely wash it out in a few days. I sowed the rest of what I had yesterday and was shocked to see it already germinated and is sprouting today. Super impressed. It looks healthy, all of it is sprouting nicely.

On day 3 and I'm already seeing tiny sprouts popping up!!!!! (Weather is pretty warm, spring, and we mowed to grass WAYYY down and then saturated the lawn with water right before sprinkling the seed. Then we have watered for a few minutes 4 or 5x a day to keep the ground constantly a little soggy) Size looks excellent so far, they're very cute!! (The clover naturally growing in our yard is a little bigger leafed, and I wanted a smaller variety)

I am very pleased with the germination rate of the clover I received in this order. I will be posting photos with the progress of my clover lawn. Following a construction project late last fall a large area of my lawn became a patch of clay. After reading about eco lawns I decided to try to reseed the bold patch with clover rather than grass. I selected white Dutch clover because it is low growing (it reaches 4 inches when it matures) and was rated well for the North East region where I live. I liked that Clover is a perennial and will propagate on its own. I like that Clover helps grass grow. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria that form nodules on the roots of the clover fix nitrogen from the air and increases the nitrogen in the lawn helping the grass to grow. What was important to me that clover grows vigorously even in poor soil, which is exactly what I have. I read that the ideal time to plant is mid-April before grass starts growing quickly and provides competition for water. It can be planted later in the season as well, by then watering frequently becomes crucial for clover lawn establishment. I planted my clover in the third week of April, seeding some over the new grass that just started growing, some in the clay left by the construction, and some over patches that had dead grass. Some information I found indicates that you need both clover AND grass to make a "clover lawn" as they are complementary in their ecological functioning and one supports the other. By planting my clover in several ways I will be able to see if I also need to add grass seed to the clover lawn. The instructions said not to spread them by hand, so I came up with the following solution. I used a large spice bottle (the kind you get at Costco) and opened the side with the round holes and used it as a shaker to spread the seeds. I watered daily (if there was no rain). The instructions said you only need to do it for 7 to 10 days, but I am still watering to insure good growth. I will continue to update this review with new photos to there is a record of growth. Update 8/8/11 One section of my lawn which included clover is mowed regularly once a week. The clover did not survive many weeks of mowing. It came back a couple of times, but eventually died out completely. A section that has not been mowed still has healthy looking clover. Update 10/17/11 In the fall the regular mowing ended and I am happy to report that the clover came back in the section which was regularly mowed and where it stopped growing during the summer! I’ve been trying to move away from a traditional grass lawn. Tested this white clover to fill in some patchy areas and help with erosion. The nitrocoated seeds definitely made a difference; they took hold pretty quickly in my backyard. It’s a solid product that does exactly what it says it’ll do, especially with fixing the nitrogen in the soil. The only reason I’m not giving it a full five stars is the price - it’s a bit of an investment for "bulk" seeding. Also, while the growth is lush, my germination rate was right around 80%, so I had to go back and overseed a couple of spots to get that full coverage I wanted. Still, it’s a great, hardy option if you’re looking for a low-maintenance ground cover.

Conditions I had when planting: - very sandy, extremely poorly maintained/fertilized soil, mid-Atlantic coast - mixture of sparse clover patches, mixed wild violets, some weeds, and an absolutely awful conglomeration of about a dozen different grass types, including the misfortune of highly invasive bermuda - June, coming off the end of one month of drought, some very large patches of dead grass What I did: I raked the entire lawn with garden (not leaf) rake to break up and remove thatch. I probably should have taken more care to rake up all willow oak leaves as they never break down. It is very important that the seeds have a clear path to make contact with the soil. I mixed two pounds of this with a medium-sized bag of Scotts Lawn Thick'r, which mostly fertilizer and soil conditioner but does have some grass seed. I spread it by hand (put some in a cup and just walked back and forth shaking it out; my lawn is small and spreaders are expensive). I watered with a hose by hand 2-3 times a day for 1.5 weeks, heavy rains came after one week. Results: The pictures attached are days 10 and 20. I am very happy with the results. It has now been a full month, and the clover is almost tall enough to start getting clipped when I mow. All of the cotyledons (generic germination leaf) have been replaced with the typical three-leaf pattern. I would estimate that under ideal growing conditions the germination rate is over 80%, potentially as high as 90-100%. However, that requires a MASSIVE amount of moisture. I would highly recommend planting this right before several days of steady rain. Clover germinates in 2-3 days, and at a week in I had only about 5% germination, and only in the most ideal growing areas. I was shocked when we had heavy rains after a week and three days later the lawn was covered. If you don't have a built in irrigation system I would recommend working with nature and not planting this as drought recovery like I did. Summer planting in my area was fine with adequate watering. My goal was to more evenly disperse clover throughout the lawn, fill in some bare spots, and end up with a more uniform-looking lawn instead of having random clumps of varying grass spread throughout. This appears to do the trick, and should work well for repairing the soil and feeding wildlife. This is my first summer here, and I look forward to seeing what it looks like next year when the plants have fully matured.

I ordered the Outsidepride Perennial White Dutch Clover Seed along with another variety, O.M. Scott & Sons Clover Seed. I’m in Zone 7 and planted these as ground cover around my raised garden bed. I also plan on adding additional raised beds later, so I’m excited to see how well this fills everything in over time. I expected the seeds to sprout in a couple of weeks, but to my surprise and delight, I already had significant clover sprouts popping up just 4 days later! I’m including a picture, keep in mind, this is only 4 days after planting. They’ve been watered daily, with one day of light rain, and both varieties are already sprouting beautifully. You can even see the two different types in the pictures. For the amount of sqft it covers, this also feels like a really great value. I’ll continue adding updated phitos as they grow, but with results this fast, I already think this is going to look amazing!

Bought 3 bags of Dutch White Clover seed; planted last Spring / Fall. The first bag area is doing very well, lots of clover. The other two areas have a lot of Henbit Deadnettle weed growing along with some clover. I am disappointed because the first bag did so well. On the upside the Henbit Weed is considered "pretty" by some and has some medicinal uses. I will have to research the consequences of lots of Henbit mingled with the clover in my yard.

I’m actually really impressed with how quickly this clover grass seed took off. Within about 3 days, we were already seeing noticeable growth, and now it’s spread all over the yard. It gives the lawn a much softer, greener, and more natural look compared to traditional grass, and honestly it makes the yard feel a lot more refreshing and lively. One thing I really like is how “wild but still neat” it looks. The clover fills in areas nicely and gives everything a more natural landscape vibe instead of that overly perfect artificial lawn appearance. It’s also really cute once it fully grows in and adds a nice texture to the yard. The downside, though, is that the clover definitely attracts more bees and wasps. The bees honestly don’t bother me much and are good for the environment, but the increase in wasps has been less enjoyable, especially when trying to spend time outside comfortably. Another thing to keep in mind is maintenance. Because we’ve had a lot of rain this year, the clover has been growing very quickly, which means we’ve actually had to mow and trim the yard more often than expected. It’s not difficult to maintain, but it definitely grows aggressively once established. Overall, though, I still think it was worth it. The yard looks greener, softer, and much more natural than before, and the fast growth was impressive. Just be prepared for more pollinators around the yard and potentially more trimming depending on your weather.

I have gone through several of these bags. I find that the seeds germinate within two to three days and as long as you keep them moist the first few days at least, they grow really well, even in poor soil. I have never had a problem with these seeds not growing. The plants make beautiful white flowers that bumblebees love, and sadly some wild rabbits seem to like them too. I have not seen any other seeds in the package. Also I live in Calgary Canada, zone 3, and the plants survive a nasty winter fine. If you water them well they do make seeds and also spread. And yes they do push out dandelions and bluebells and other things, but I find that only happens if you have a large enough cluster of clover. One individual plant may get swamped by grass around it if yo water it lots, but a cluster that you water well will expand.

This clover seed works well. I am reseeding my backyard with just clover and mixing clover into my grass lawn to help with hot summers. Clover sprouts in about 3-4 days in wet conditions. Very good buy compared to other suppliers.
