Zojirushi NS-YAC18 Umami Micom 10-Cup (Uncooked) Rice Cooker and Warmer, Pearl White

I received my rice cooker almost a month ago now but am just now writing a review because I wanted to try all of the features before writing about my experience. Plus, i wanted to try the crazy 3 hour GABA brown rice setting which really intrigued me. First things first though. Yes, I could totally tell the difference in the umami white rice setting. And because it only takes an hour or so for that particular setting, most of the rice in my 30 lb rice bag will end up being eaten using that particular setting. It's a subtle difference but it's there. The rice itself tastes softer and sweeter but not sweet at the same time. Weird, I know. The GABA brown rice setting for me (as opposed to the regular brown rice setting) made the brown rice taste come out waaaaay more. I was expecting after three hours for it to transform itself magically to white rice texture but with the healthiness of the brown rice. But when I took a bite, it was just an overwhelming super brown rice taste. That's not a bad thing at all, it just completely blew my mind that brown rice could taste so brown ricey...If that makes sense at all. The wild rice setting did make the rice softer than I imagined. I'm going to experiment with cooking the wild rice with chicken stock and making a little pilaf. You know that sounds good.The cooker itself is beautiful and will definitely be taken care of better than any pets I ever owned just because I won't let anything bad happen to my expensive, fancy rice cooker. No one's going to be eating cheetos and touching my cooker! It is extremely easy to use, including the timing function, which is also my favorite. You just set the time you want the rice to be done and it'll start itself up accordingly. What a time we live in!The ONLY negative is that the plug doesn't retract back into itself like my old cooker and comes instead detached from the machine. The cord is extremely loose and will fall out if you just barely touch it so I just leave mine plugged in and yell at whoever comes close to the plug.Suggestion: While it will keep your rice warm for however many days you want it to, it will definitely start to go bad after two days. I feel like with my older cooker, I would still eat rice days after it was finished cooking on the warm setting, but was probably able to do so because it dried out the rice. This cooker keeps the rice moist and so it will go bad and develop a smell if you don't eat it quick enough. So eat up!

Works perfectly. Lots of options. Like the keep warm option. Easy to keep clean.

I gave five stars because:- Fast delivery in a a good condition. The delivery was even faster than I expected. Good job Amazon/Zojirushi!- Great product. Yummy rice. It is the first time that I have an "advanced" rice cooker. After spending some time to read the manual, I did not wait to start using this rice cooker. The first result was a bit disappointing. I thought I had followed the instruction well, including the amount of water needed. i poured the water up to the indicated line inside the inner bowl. However, my Japanese round rice came out too soft for my taste. But then, I tried again. I cooked simple white Thai rice. This time, I made sure that I mixed the water and rice well inside the rice cooker bowl, while pouring water up to the indicated line (instead of just pouring the water without mixing it with the rice). The result? Delicious, the rice tasted great, fluffy, just the right texture, better than the rice coming out of my old rice cooker. Then, the same day, I also made mixed rice with coconut milk. It came out great too. This is why I was so happy because it is faster to cook mixed rice now, with a minimum number of items to clean up afterward!- It is quite easy to clean. Like my old rice cooker, this rice cooker has two parts that need to be cleaned up after each use: the thin/delicate inner lid and the thick inner bowl. I was a bit scared to detach the inner lid at first. However, after I get used to it, it takes me a second to do it. According to the manual, I will also have to clean the outer lid/vent system up regularly.Cons:- The cooking time is a bit longer than usual (i.e. 30 minutes using my old rice cooker versus 50 minutes-1 hr using Zoji). But I will just try to remember that. No big complain because the rice tastes so good.- The plug: at the beginning, it was a bit difficult to plug in the electrical cable to the rice cooker. However, after several times, the plug is a "warmed-up" and it is easier to plug in the cable each time.-->I will still have to try all the functions, including Porridge, GABA and slow cooker functions...but I am persuaded that this rice cooker is a good investment. I hope it is durable and lasts longer than my old rice cooker!

It came with a Japanese plug. I bought a converter but it still can not be powered. No idea what's the reason but the seller replied fast for the application of returning. I got refunded thereafter

Mi esposa la adora. fue lo que compro con su primer sueldo por que es fanática de la comida japonesa y la usamos como 3 veces a la semana. Cambio nuestra forma de ver el arroz. De broma decimos que nos echo a perder comer arroz en otros lugares por que saben feo a comparación del nuestro.muy buena textura y sale en el punto exacto, a parte es estética.

¡Me llegó antes de lo previsto! Y hoy mismo la estrené. Hice arroz blanco y en verdad queda en su punto. No se pega no se bate. Es muy silenciosa al momento de cocinar. Hasta donde he visto me ha encantado.

We've had this rice cooker for over 8 years now and it's been fantastic and still works as well as the day we got it. Wouldn't expect anything else from Zojirushi, a very well respected brand.Umami setting takes about an hour to cook, but the result is fantastic. White rice setting is about 40 minutes - more on par with other rice cookers I've used. There is a timer setting so you can set everything up ahead of time and set when you'd like the rice to be finished and then forget about it. Works very well and is the primary way we use this rice cooker.Some other reviews mention issues with the power cord, ours fits quite well and we've never once had an issue with it coming loose.

Works as promised. Brown rice is very tough to cook otherwise - makes high quality brown rice every single time. The umami and gabba settings seem to be hype though - can't really taste anything different in return for the 3 hour cooking time at those settings
