Just Won't Die
I practice hermetic lab alchemy and produce educational material for it on tiktok. Usually I burn out a hot plate about every 8 months, but this little beast has been chugging along with almost daily use for well over a year now. Reliable, durable, does exactly what it says it does, and has a pleasantly small footprint in my limited, cramped lab space. It heats quickly and cools just the same. When I finally manage to destroy it I'll definitely be replacing it with this same model.

Inexpensive and Works Well, Lasts 3+ Years
This product lasted in our chemistry lab after daily use by multiple people for just over 3 years. After about 40 months one was no longer heating up and the other is showing signs of end of life, so we're ordering replacements. Great value. Not great control/accuracy over the heat, but you get what you pay for.

Gets hot, not warm
My main issue with this unit is the method used to set temperature. I am familiar with the usual designs used for adjusting intensity of heaters, lamps and other resistive loads having designed them myself. This has the same issue that many low-cost dimmers have in that you cannot set the temperature (or intensity) to a value below a certain point. Starting at OFF, turning up the control results in nothing until a certain point is reached, then suddenly it begins to work and the heating/intensity can be finely adjusted after that point. Starting at full-ON, turning the intensity/heating down drops as expected until a point is reached, then it turns OFF abruptly. But the unit is low-cost and if you are not in the situation of having to set a specific low heat level, then it may not be an issue. I would have been happier if the threshold point were lower since I did need to have some warm heating. My second issue is that a finer thread or different alloy for the thermometer holder clamp would be nice. After crunching down on the clamp screw, the arm holding the thermometer was still not rigid enough to hold the thermometer in one place. Finally, a protection ring around the heating plate would help prevent accidental burning if a person happened to move their hand laterally across the table and touch the rim of the hot plate. But these are all 4-star features and with an evaluation system where the vendor is guaranteed one star, making this a three-star rating is reasonable to me. If I planned to use this often enough, I would pay more and get these features. Since this was for showing an on-line schooled child some cool chemistry experiments, I am happy with this unit. It does the job I wanted, has worked the 7-8 times I need it, seems to be well designed beyond the above comments and the price was right.

Stir it up!
Works as advertised, and does what I need it to do.

Get what you pay for 🙃
It probably won’t surprise you to learn this is a garbage stir plate. The plate is iron or steel with some kind of partial powder coating on it. It smells like burning insulation and it is scratched and rusted after very light use. Heat control is fine if you’re above 200C, below 200C it’s very hard to target a temperature with any precision. The stirring is terrible, stir bars are dancing all over the place when trying to stir anything more viscous than water. Maybe an oval stir bar would work but the pill-shaped stir bars are hopeless

this was a win.
well made, excellent functions at an even more excellent price. You will have no trouble determining if this is adequate to occupy lab space . Luv it. Oh just be sure not to spill on it while hot. It wont hurt it but it will never look as nice.

Buy It!
Love it. Goes zero to surface of the sun in no time. Has some what of temperature control. Does what its supposed to do. I would buy another. The mixing is paramount!
