Microsoft XBox High Definition AV Pack

I am writing this review because the image of the XBOX High Def is not what you would receive in the mail. What you would get is a fat cable which one side connects to XBOX on the other side you will get 5 cables, 3 for component input and 2 for stereo audio. On the fat side connected to XBOX there is a digital audio connection also known as fiber optic or TOS link. This cable is not included, and I would recommend Monster THX if you have a good system. I hope this review clarifies for others what I had to learn through experience. Judging by the images I ordered a COAX cable, which I will be returning as it is of no use with this system. Last but not least, [...] sells this pack as well as the monster wires cheaper. Amazon is slow on shipping this pack through gamestop as well as the cables them selves with their cheap but super long shipping.

Yes, you can use Monster's adapter, but I am happy with this one by Microsoft. It is only $20 and has outputs for my component cables as well as an Optical output for 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. It comes with some cheap component video cables but it gets the job done.People may complain that it is not shielded, but it honestly did not make a difference for me as I don't have it lying next to any power cords or speakers.

I must admit I needed this accessory for a somewhat nefarious purpose, not at all for playing video games but for the XBOX Media Center application I run on my XBOX console. The Microsoft authorized "Advanced A/V Pack" delivers optical audio but no component video, condemning users to 480i SD resolution. This was ok back in 2001 but today watching a DVD in 480i creates the dreaded ghosting effect and generally looks poor.This accessory combined with a recent build of XBMC (Xbox Media Center) delivers the ultimate media center front-end. 480p/720p/1080i all look brilliant and the entire XBMC product looks all the more spectacular in High Definition.Highly recommended for anyone running XBOX Media Center on their XBOX consoles.The day my XBOX1 finally dies, err... I don't even want to think about that day!

-I was expecting the product to be delivered in 2 days, i got it after 5 !!!-the product is different then what you see in the picture. Quality of the picture is very very bad. I enable the 1080i and i got a full HD LCD so dont tell me that i dont know what im talking about. Dont buy this product.

I was delivered on time and it works as advertised. The build quality is great, truly an original product, with this box you can get the best picture quality available for the original Xbox, COMPONENT Video, with this you can get Progressive Scan video at resolutions of 480p, 720p and even 1080i. You have to be careful though, because there is another box, and although it's also a genuine product from Microsoft, that box will only provide COMPOSITE Video and S-Video. The key words when looking for the box capable of Component video are "High Definition AV".

I was using a Joytech Xbox Digital Av Cable- Black before on my xbox. This is much clearer picture plus you can use any component cables & Digital Optical cable you want. I am using a R shack component cable, with a BlueRigger Digtal Optical cable looks and sounds great. Audio can output 5.1 for most games. I only have 480p games, so cannot coment on 720p or 1080i games. I use this with an Framemister XRGB mini to up scale 480p to 1080p.

I think high definition may not be the best word for this as most games only go 480p. However it makes all the difference now more than then because HDTV's are the norm and it offers the best picture for those games. Some games do go higher definition like Freedom Fighters and X-Men Legends 2.With also having a optical cable output for Dolby Digital, game sound much better than other multiplatform titles. This makes Halo, Splinter Cell, and my favorite, Kingdom Under Fire sound amazing.

If you're going to play an original xbox on any modern television, you should do yourself a favor and get this adapter. This adapter allows you to run games in higher resolutions, so the games can look as good as you remember. Most games support 480p, and some even 720p or 1080i! Even at 480p, the difference is HUGE going from 480i composite cables. Just plug it in and mark off the resolutions your TV supports in the video settings and go!
