Frye Women's Melissa Shopper Tote Bag, Stylist Large Handbag with Adjustable Strap & Pockets

I had been looking at this bag forever and finally made the purchase when I found a retailer on Amazon with a reduced price. I think they must be discontinuing the Slate Color - which is the color I purchased, hence the reduction in price.This bag easily holds my MacBook Pro, my wallet, makeup bag, a book, etc. Great travel bag! I’m a public speaker and I need to look nice while hauling my computer and connections around. I used to carry a bag with my laptop and also carry my purse but this bag allows me to just carry one bag and I feel less like a hobo with only one bag.The leather is beautiful and so soft and will clearly look even better as it wears. The length of the straps are perfect for me as I hate struggling with shorter straps when I have a coat on.Even though the leather is soft, it doesn’t lose its shape when it’s sitting is on a table. As always, I wish bags had a few more pockets but bag designers seem to hate the idea of pockets. This bag has two shallow, standard pockets on one side of the interior of the bag and another zipper pocket on the other side. There are no exterior pockets which is kind of a bummer because searching for my phone is always such a hassle. It also has a little strap that you can use to connect your keys to instead of having to fish for them at the bottom of this generously sized bag.Frye bags can be a decent financial investment but in my experience they last a lifetime. I can’t imagine anyone would regret buying this bag: great leather, great size, great quality and oh so pretty.

WOW, WOW, WOW! What a gorgeous, rich, high quality tote! I recently purchased a Melissa satchel in Cognac and a Melissa wallet in Dusty Rose and fell in love with ithem. Since I’ll be traveling more for work, I thought I’d purchase the tote-so glad I did. This tote is spacious without being overwhelming, structured but still comfortable and slouchy. The leather is stunning-soft,supple,thick,rich. Straps are perfectly comfortable over my shoulder. I LOVE the Cognac color! It’s *the* perfect shade of brown! Now...I originally ordered the Beige color, but I just didn’t love it...too...beige! So I initiated a return on Amazon, dropped my package off at the Post Office the next day at lunch time, and my credit was applied to my account within 2-3 hours!! WOW to Amazon! I immediately ordered the Cognac tote and it’s now happily hanging from my doorknob :) Incredible bag, incredible customer experience!

This is very nice tote. Holds all you needed especially if you need to carry iPad, water bottle, and much more. Very well made as I have always found Frye products have been. Handle just right dive to carry on shoulder. Would purchase again.

Beautiful and well made bag. Be aware that it does not have a zipper - the only closure is a button at the center. For me, that’s fine! I love the leather and the quality.

There are numerous reviews with the same issue I encountered, which is the color of the bag. It truly is a bait and switch type of transaction because the color is SO different. The images on the listing shows a beautiful amber color that is a medium range leather while the bag that is sent is a dull, puke beige. COMPLETELY opposite of what expected to receive. I think the seller should be notified of this to make sure the purchased product is sent, not a bag that is probably not selling well due to its color in a brick and mortar shote. Very upset and already have a return started. Not worth even one star, but is required to post the review.

I absolutely loved my first Frye bag, a Melissa shopper in Red Oak that was purchased in summer 2018. After that bag was stolen, I tried to replace it by purchasing this item. But Frye has changed the lining fabric at some point in the past six years. It used to be a soft black twill-like fabric, and now it’s a rough, scratchy, beige canvas-like fabric. I hate sticking my hand into the bag and wondering if my skin is going to make contact with the lining in a way that aggravates my senses. The pictures on the Amazon listing do not accurately represent the lining — I thought I was getting the original lining. However, the bag is otherwise well made and it does the job. I’ll replace it with something from another brand when I can afford it, in a few years.

My first fear was that this would be too big. It's a large bag and well suited to take on a trip for example, but it looks and feels ok when worn. I think it might not work for some people, but for my height it's fine. The only issue I found was that the red paint did not look as nice and uniform as my other Frye bags (which are cognac and beige). For some reason the red was uneven on the bottom and on one of the handles, also there were some visible brown spots on one side. The overall quality of the bag seems up to Frye standards, but the red paint does not. As I bought this heavily discounted I don't care, but at full price this would have been a deal breaker for me.

It appears to be chrome tanned and finished by dipping in dye. Unfortunately, the finishing does not match the standards of other brands—there is no edge burnishing and the stitching is mediocre. Overall, the material and workmanship do not present a premium look, and are comparable to a cheaper bag.
