Achilles Tendon Rupture Fracture Boot, Range of Motion, XELGO Technology, German designed (Small)

I've been in this boot for a non-op Achiilles partial tear since May 2026. It looks a bit like something you'd see in a movie, and it was highly recommended by hundreds of people in an online Achilles injury support group. I can't say it's "comfortable." That would mean it feels like slippers or your favorite sneaks, which it doesn't, of course. However, with such an uncomfortable injury, it does ease some of that discomfort by holding your foot at the right angle for optimum tendon healing. It's not necessarily lightweight, but it probably doesn't weigh as much as a cast would (I didn't have a cast, so I'm guessing). It's pricey, yes, but so is your health and sanity, and so is being limited to crutches, so I have found being back on two feet extremely valuable. It fits well--I wear a size 6.5 to 7 womens shoe and ordered the size Small--and it is easy to walk in with the rocker sole. It provides excellent support for the foot and ankle because you can remove the air from the insert to make it hard like a cast around your leg. I would say it's definitely high quality and it's brilliantly engineered to allow the ability for a wearer to set the angle of the foot to different degrees, either fixed or to allow a range of motion from one degree to another (e.g. 30 degrees to 20 degrees). It is tall, so you will absolutely need to wear a shoe lift on the other foot. I got mine from EvenUp, the same folks I got this boot from. I wear a platform soled shoe in it and my hips are even. Walking unevenly will cause hip, back and neck problems almost immediately, so buy and wear the shoe lift. One issue I have with this product is that the inner plastic bladder that holds the air beads does not always stay intact. Mine has already busted open, and I've seen numerous videos of other wearers who have had the same problem. I was able to contact the seller (also EvenUp) and their fantastic customer service team has already overnighted me a replacement. It seems the manufacturer would do well to solve this issue, since it's apparently a consistent point of failure. Another issue I had at first with said inner bladder is that it stinks. I initially thought it was my foot. It absolutely reeked. Like I could smell my own foot when I was standing, and it's a ghastly forensics-worthy kind of stench. I discovered it wasn't the foot. It was the off gassing or the chemical odor of the plastic combined with a sweaty foot. It's an odor that will knock a buzzard off a s**twagon. It took me a while to figure this out, at which point I decided to clean off the plastic bladder with baby wipes every time I changed the fabric cover. Voila! Problem solved! I can now wear a liner for up to five days, whether or not I wash my foot every day, with or without a sock, without experiencing that disgusting, gag-inducing odor. So, folks, first thing you should do out of the box and every time you change the cover is clean the plastic bladder with baby wipes or a wet washcloth to reduce the plastic smell. You'll thank me! On the upside, this boot can be worn in water if you've been cleared to swim (just make sure you close the vaco-valve first!) and it floats. Be aware that chlorine can dry out plastic, so you may want to detach the sole before you jump into the water. I think mine got dried out because it started squeaking the day after I'd been in the pool with it on. It has abated some, but you can still hear me coming down the hallway. I suppose you could also shower with it uncovered, but I wear a boot cover in the shower because I don't want all the soap and shampoo in it. Other things to note: it will most likely hurt the bottom of your heel at some point, due to the angle of the boot and heel pad deterioration from not walking on the foot. I stuck a small gel heel pad between the boot and the liner, and that has helped some. Also, the lower non-rocker sole is very hard to wear and walk on. If you spend any time reading online discussions about this boot, everyone says the same thing, which is stick with the rocker sole even when you're at zero degrees in the boot. It doesn't hurt anything, as long as you continue to wear a shoe lift on the other leg. Lastly, this is an extremely stable boot. I have no worries about wobbling when I step up or down a curb or walk through my backyard with my dogs where we have a combination of grass, stone pavers, and gravel. My legs have always been stronger than my upper body, so it feels much more secure than navigating on crutches ever did. I highly recommend this boot for any type of foot, ankle, or leg stability requirement.

I purchased two of these on my surgeon’s recommendation, as I didn’t want to risk my child’s post-operation recovery. While there are similar products at lower prices, I chose this one for peace of mind. The strap unfortunately came loose from the cast after about two hours of daily wear over a month. However, the customer service was outstanding — they overnighted a replacement strap the very next day after I called. That level of support gave me confidence in the company, even though the product itself could be more durable.

I tore my achilles for the second time and boy did I wish I got this the first time. Decided to pull the trigger after tearing it again and this was the best investment I ever made for myself. I’ll be honest, I hate heel wedges. The fact it’s adjustable to the angle is a game changer as I slowly get my foot back into normal position and weight bear. It’s comfortable. If something breaks you can purchase new parts or liners for this and not have to buy a whole new boot. It’s lightweight and durable. I love this thing!

I had three areas of tendon repair. The plantar and achiikis were both detched and scraped and bone spurs romped and then the gastonemius was cut to lengthen calf muscle. The option they gave me was a very heavy boot with wedges. So miserable. I ordered this boot. Such a difference. Showed it to the doc today and he was impressed.

I got this boot and wore it for one day the beads inside the liner that are supposed to form to your foot bunch up at the bottom of your foot to the side which made my foot sit funny inside the boot creating more pain in my torn tendons if you plan on walking a bit i DO NOT recommend this product. It does state in the return policy that if the boot is used that they will not refund you. I never imagined that included the boot being ineffective, I reached out for a refund within a week of receiving the boot and they still wouldn't work with me on a refund. Highly disappointed for the price it should be a better quality product. Not only did I have to pay $48 to send the boo back I'm going to have to pay shipping to get the boot back from them. Horrible customer service.
