Another great one by Wood
This one has Jack Randall being pulled out of his forced "vacation" to head for Africa. A vacation forced because of Randalls handling of his last case. A case he solved. Politics forced the "vacation."The US Embassy in Tanzania has been bombed. Most of the bomb hit the warehouse and the back of the embassy but there were deaths and many were wounded. The Govt wants answers so Jack and his team are headed fro Tanzania.Jack also has a couple of people who aren't part of his team. One of them is with the CDC and the other is with the CIA. Jack decided both bear watching. He trust no one but his team members.Once inside the warehouse Jack finds vials of medicine. Some have red tops and others have yellow tops. No markings or numbers or writing. Jack grabs one of each as he's seen the CDC rep doing the same. He's begining to think he's right not to trust these two people who were foisted on his team. The warehouse is cleared out and the stock inside, vials included, are headed for the Canadian Embassy to be taken where they need to go. The convoy is attacked and a bomb thrown into the back of the truck carrying the vials. Everything is lost. Everything except the two vials Jack and the CDC rep have. Jack is now more than curious about these vials. His team has rebuilt the truck that was used and gathered all the evidence it needs. They head home.Once home Syd get the vials to a former professor of hers. What he finds is more than disturbing. So begins another great one. This one has Jack, his team, a man named Kimball, the US Govt, the POTUS, a raid on a camp in the desert, a camp containing one of the plotters of the embassy bombing, the Deliveryman who decides twenty million dollars is what its worth to give up the vials he's holding, monkeys, birds and a plot thats enough to scare the hell out of everyone.Just a great read. Five Stars all the way.

Scary read!
Humn...in the middle of covid19 made for an interesting read. Makes one question just what Mr. Wood knows that we don't?? Hah. This is a very well written novel that captivates the reader from the first chapter to the end. There are a plethora novels of ex spec ops heroes turned spies, vigilantes, action heroes etc.Mr. Wood makes Jack very realistic with human foibles as well as strengths reflecting skills representative of expert military training. The plot in this novel ,however, reading from "sheltering at home" certainly made me lookl twice at stories of the origin of this pandemic.

Worth my time
I read Closure and Pestilence this week and found them both worthy of my time. Randall Wood develops strong, interesting plots that are well researched and realistic. The rising action of the plot leads to a detailed, comprehensive climax to the story. I have read several books recently that told the climax of the plot in one paragraph making me think my Kindle had skipped several pages. Wood also keeps away from the smelly/ literary swamps of aliens, the supernatural, adultery, profanity, and emotional angst. I especially liked the stalwart "common man" feature of so many of the minor characters that come and go throughout the story that are juxtaposed against the greedy and power-hungry; no super heroes here. I definitely will be reading more of Woods' books. Glad I found this author.

Unfortunately, not as good as the first book
O.K. so, if I am buying into the thesis of this author, and this book, that the heads of the world's most prestigious countries...... including the President of The United States, would "thin out" the population of the planet... . through stuff like "Aids"..... and "Swine Flu"..... and however many more ways there are to arbitrarily kill off as much of the world's population.....there are (of course we start with people who matter the least..... those black people in Africa).. If you buy that..... you will like this book. (because.....food.... and water shortages will cause "WAR") which also happens to kill a lot of people..... (JMHO.)I don't..... and, I didn't. It was a rainy summer afternoon, and it was something to pass the time. Enjoyed Mr. Woods' first Jack Randall...... but not this one. One thing I have to give him.... he has a wonderfully vivid imagination. I wouldn't recommend this one..... to anybody...... except as a need to pass time.

Fast Paced Read
A little of Michael Crichton, a little John Saul, (or insert your favorite medical thriller author here), a chase scene that reminded me of one of the Die Hard movies, all tied together in a heck of a thriller. It starts off with an embassy bombing in Tanzania and goes from there. As with Wood's previous novel, Closure, the author keeps the novel moving without bogging down with too many unneeded details. Each chapter is headed by a quote from a news source that does that job for him.Readers who like face paced books with a plot that is completely believable and possible, give this author a try.

Spellbinding...good story.
I really enjoyed reading this book except for one thing----the proofreading. Whenever I have to stop and decide what word should have been used just because someone didn't compete their assignment, not only does it waste my time, but, I find it irritating. I enjoy reading and read for pleasure. Bad proofreading erases some of the enjoyment.However. Mr. Wood`s writing keeps me interested reading long past my leisure time. Please keep doing a great job.I purchased this book. It was not a freebie. I will be buying another one of his books in the near future.

Another good book in the series
You don't need to have read the first one to read this. It is a story in its own right and although it makes reference to previous events, it is only to add to the main FBI agent's character. This book has a very different storyline. It starts in Africa, where a terrorist attack on an embassy uncovers bottles of unknown liquid. It seems to be drugs but what and who actually owns it?As the agents return to America, the drama begins to unfold.Again a well thought out plot that makes the reader question what secrets the state really holds.I have downloaded book 3 already π

Well worth reading the series
Really enjoy this Jack Randell detective series. The story is good, good length, a page turned, characters you can engage with. I read that the third book in the series is not one featuring Jack Randell and the story is quite drawn out but the fourth is a true Jack Randell masterclass. And the best in the series i read. I'm going to skip the third and read the fourth straight off, i don't want to tarnish my time with Jack! Great books.

Randall Wood at his best
As with his previous book, book gallops along nicely. The comparatively short chapters allow you to put the book down as often as you need to, without leaving yourself mid story.

great plot.
I have now finished the second book in the Jack Randall series and immediately ordered the third. Any of these books would make a great movie. I love the fact that each book is a separate storyline so my decision to buy the next one is down to my desire to read another one, rather than been manipulated by the auther to continue a storyline spread over numerous books. My new favourite auther by far. .

Really great story teller, who knows how to build a suspence
Wow. I really am enjoying this authors books. They are exciting, well written and plotted. The characters are all believable and the description of processes and places really make it all seem real. I love the facts given at the beginning each chapter.I downloaded the first book in the series for free, and then bought this one. I am glad I did and now I am going to buy the next ones as I love it when I find a really good writer who can tell a great story and this is definitely a great story teller.
