Symmetry: The Ordering Principle (Wooden Books, 41)

This book is part of a series of books entitled "The Wooden Series" - I presently have 5 of the 30ish books. The full title is Symmetry The Ordering Principal. The books I am interested in pertain to graphic design, so that is the common element. I also have: Islamic Design, A genius for Geometry; The Golden Section, Nature's Greatest Secret; Ruler and Compass (tools of the trade), Practical Geometric Constructions; and Sacred Geometry. My interest is apparent. I have read each of these 5 books, which are generally short (50 pgs +/-) and are packed w/information on the stated topic. Intro to book- Symmetry has a very wide appeal; it is of as much interest to mathematicians as it is to artists & is relevant to physics as it is to architecture. I have been interested in physics & architectural design for years. This book and the others I bought feed my soul's desire for information, of a mathematical nature, in the ways of design & procedure. Don't recall how I first discovered this group of books, but very happy I did.

An insightful, beautiful book that explains a most important concept in few words with excellent graphics, so that you don't need to learn it in university; I mean we the laypersons. Duality is two, and you are the One.

Charming, insightful, eccentricl small book. Precursor to "Crystal and Dragon". Both are must-have reads.

Informative full of images... A great introductory book for anyone interested in symmetry in nature and art. I love Wooden books.

I already crammed so much into the title of my review that the title almost says it all. This is a beautiful book to be sure. The book also is full of a variety of content. The price is certainly great for what you get. But being very knowledgeable about most (but not all) of this book, I can say that some of the explanations are too terse for a lay audience. Still there are great facts amidst the text too. I really would like a 4.5 rating, but I give the book a 4 because I think the book tends to make some readers want meatier text / explanation that it provides. But what is there is beautiful and varied in kinds of content.

all of these wooden books series are so impressive.......none of these books are very expensive, 10$ at most, small and to the point...i am so glad i've bought most of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great book. I bought several in this series, but this is the one that is well written and thought out. I learned a lot from this one.

good overview of the principles of symmetry

This book on Symmetry is amazing as it gives many examples and explains the background of the many different styles. It would be nice if it were bigger in physical size but makes up for it being loaded with lots of great information

Das Buch geht leider nicht sehr in die Tiefe der Materie. Das grafische Äußere ist jedoch ein Hingucker. Alles in allem ist es eher ein Büchlein geworden.

Awesome book! Love these little books! A great addition to my others, yes they’re small, but I love that! The illustrations are beautiful! As an artist and desisgner, I wish I’d had these to read when I was at least half my age! I can’t wait to pass them on to my daughter when she’s older (she’s only 2 now) however I do show her them, she loves the illustrations! This is a great book to help me to teach her to start understanding symmetry! She can identify with most of the shapes, especially with snails shells, (as she loves snails!) and I can show her other naturally occurring spirals in nature! These books give a great little insight into many complicated subjects/topics/theories etc.. but just enough to help you understand, and when I want to know more about a certain subject then I just do further research, or often there are more books in the range that are based on that subject matter, e.g. The Golden Ratio, compass and ruler etc.. So it’s great for introducing these things without overcomplicing or overwhelming the reader. I often recommend them to friends or get them out if I’m trying to explain something, as the diagrams help! So I would definitely recommend them to everyone! :)
