You Won't Know That It's There
Traditionally, you got to choose between a locker that would chirp your outer tire in turns and wear out your tires or an open diff that will reliably direct all power to the wheel with the least traction. Putting a locker in the front was even worse, sometimes to the point of being outright dangerous. Two solutions emerged: selectable lockers and TorSen differentials.Air and electronic selectable lockers have a place, and while they 're more complicated than a TorSen, offer fully locked performance. If you are likely to have a wheel completely off of the ground with any regularity AND wish to use that vehicle on the pavement, then a selectable locker is the best choice. For the those of us who don't want to install a part that WILL eventually break and will likely stop the vehicle when it does so, the TorSen is a great compromise.A Torque-Sensing differential is essntially an open differential that connects the axles with a worm gear which will force torque to the wheel that is moving faster (i.e. slipping or going around the outer edge of a corner). It will NOT function if the slipping wheel has ZERO resistance (i.e. a wheel suspended in the air while rock climbing), but this issue can be overcome to a limited extent by tapping the brake (i.e. using the brake disc to a apply just enough resistance to the slipping wheel to engage the differential). The benefit is that you can easily put them on the front and rear with no perceptible change in handling (i.e. what the US military did with the HMMV), while the system is a closed purely mechanical system with no clutches. For an on/off road vehicle, that isn't going to be rock-climbing, there isn't a better system.

Works great.
I added this differential to the front dana 30 on my 1974 CJ5. The differential allows very little slip when both tires are on the ground, and works extremely well. If you lift one of the tires in the air the differential will not send power to the tire on the ground, so in that sense it is not as effective as a true locker. This is a great option for a front axle like a dana 30 where a true locker may add too much stress to the stock parts.

Inexpensive way to increase off-road performance.
I picked up the Truetrac for my '04 Jeep Wrangler TJ. I installed one in both front and rear. I'm running stock Dana 30 / 35 axles and didn't want to spend more than twice on lockers for stock axles when I will end up replacing them anyway. This is a fantastic way to make your rig more trail ready while not sacrificing street performance. So far I have had zero issues and unlike other LSD there is zero maintenance besides standard oil changes.
