ADA Complete Guide to Carb Counting

Easy to Understand and Interesting Reading
ADA Complete Guide to Carb Counting is an excellent refresher on Carb Counting for the Diabetic. I have been insulin dependent for decades but when blood sugar started going up I was back to counting carbs for my doctor. I needed a refresher course. This was perfect and a good reference to have on hand.

American stuff in this book
I was very disappointed with this book, it is overly wordy and very complicated. That is not helped by the awful american system of carb counting and working out portion sizes. Whereas we count our grams of carbohydrate and divide by 10 to arrive at our standard of "Carb Portions (CP)", our American cousins divide theirs by 15 to arrive at their standard of a "Serving". They seem to start off in ozs, then convert to grams! And as for their system of measuring blood glucose!! They are the only country in the world not to use the international system of mmol/l, but to use mg/dl (milligrams per decilitre. I know which system is easier to work out in my head! Also it gives illuminating if totally incomprehensible details on the American system of food labelling. We must really thank the EU for giving us our extremely clear system of labelling. Only buy this book if you are going to live in the USA, otherwise you will end up more confused than when you started - like me!
