mad old skool dope
for all admirers of old skool graff, you will relish this book. i ordered mine a couple of weeks back from [...]. the price is 25 euros - roughly forty american, but its worth every penny. if you order from mr baugh's web site, he will sign the book. you get one hundred twenty something pages of probably never seen in print before old skool trains. the book features trains from the ones, fours and fives. a lot of old skool graff legends are well represented here most notably blade, cliff 159 and vamm. tracy 168 has a few nice pieces and jester-dye and in throwups pop up thru out the book. i grew up in bensonhurst, brooklyn by the west end b line which was mostly covered in throwups so i have a fondness for that style of lettering. anyway, there are dozens of other well and lesser known writers featured also. this book seems to fit nicely between two other great old skool graff books, the birth of graffiti and graffiti kings. you can see the progress taking place in these photos, from primitive line letters to fancy individualized stylings. some of the photos in here show what may be graff milestones. there are full cars, top to bottoms and end to ends. some of these may have been first's. my personal faves are the jt throwups end to end on pages 54 & 55 and the vamm piece on page 105 in which he does a vamm piece on a submarine on the side of a train! the blade pieces are outrageous - mad giant explosins of color and design. i can tell you cats were buggin out watching these things roll into stations. these guys were true blue pioneers in the modern graff movement. from letter designs, to arrows clouds & bubbles, to characters & objects, to outrageous color combos, all of it was innovated right back there in the seventies and luckily documented by a few individuals such as master photographer keith baugh. as an added bonus the last few pages of the book feature photos of times square and coney island back in the day when times square was porn and kung fu movies and coney was were you copped pot. all in all its a great, great book. the photos are nice sized and very clear and colorful. highly recommended.

Brilliant book
I am so happy to have purchased this brilliant book: "Early New York Subway Graffiti 1973-1975" The photographs from Harlem, South Bronx, Times Square and Coney Island are quality. To be honest I bought it for my son's birthday but I took a sneaky preview!!!
